Dodger Beating Victim's Family: TMZ Is Being Unfair

6/28/2011 11:17 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The family of Bryan Stow -- the man who was brutally beaten outside Dodger Stadium -- is upset at TMZ's stories over the last day, claiming a remark about a hot dog in no way justified the beating.

Stow's family is upset that we posted the video, showing Stow in a verbal altercation with a Dodger fan.  The Dodger fan, Juan Banda, claims Stow had loudly said, "I rather eat my own feces than a Dodger dog."

A rep for the family tells TMZ, "There has been enough hurt and pain for Bryan, his family, friends and especially his two young children."  The rep believes we suggested Bryan's attack may have been warranted.

The rep says, "Banter is expected at any sporting event.  Violence should not be.  Bryan is not a violent person.  That shows as he remains seated, hands up as someone is in his face yelling.  Over what? Comments about a hot dog?!!"

So... the reason why he got himself beat up isn't as important as the beat down itself then? Idiotic logic - 'not saying he got what he deserved, but, if he shut his mouth up, nothing would have probably happen to him...

Jay Jay

You dont kick someone brains in over a hot dog comment.

Maverick Maverick

It's quite possible that Bryan Stow was shooting his mouth off. And pissed someone off. No matter what, his beating was completely unjustified. But it's possible that Stow is not quite the angel everyone thinks he is. And perhaps his family should realize that.

Obviously the violence was not warranted and the perpetrators are scum that need to be behind bars. That being said... it is generally a bad idea to piss people off for no reason. If I (as a white person) were to go into a minority neighborhood and started shouting racial epithets I wouldn't deserve to be beaten into a coma, but I'd be stupid to not think that it could happen.

Dan Dan

So I guess the family did not want the general public to see that Bryan was not the angelic person they have portrayed him to be.

Well if it matters, personally I would rather eat feces than a dodger dog too. Dodger fans are insane. I was at an Angels vs Dodger game and I can't even tell you how many fights were started in the parking lot by Dodger fans. L.A. shouldnt be allowed any sports teams, they don't know how to play nice. i.e- Lakers, Dodger, Raiders..

TMZ is just investigating and reporting. I hate how every clown has to pull out the kids and family will be hurt argument when some OTHER side of the story is exposed other than the one they prefer.

correct..the hot dog talk wasnt enough for a beating..thats why no fight..but it shows a pattern and makes it obvious the dude had a big mouth. it in no way justifies getting beat..but the fact michael jackson wanted to sleep doesnt warrant taking drugs to do it and dieing because of it..but it happened. if michael didnt take drugs to sleep he would be alive..if that guy didnt run his mouth he wouldnt of been beat.

We all feel for Brian Stow and hope he has a speedy recovery. But it now appears to me that he is no longer the "innocent victim” Do you think it is a possible that he take some responsibility for what happened? If he actually made a statement like that in a hostile environment he was kind of asking for it. No telling what else he said and it probably took someone over the edge unfortunately. I'm just sayin'.

If you're in a situation where alcohol is free flowing with inebriated people in varying degrees, trash talking to a person on the extreme end of the inebriation might possibly get you beaten. I feel bad for Bryan and his family, but bad feelings don't change facts. He was acting a fool and ran into someone who took him up on his foolishness.

MOO, Why are they reporting what some dodger fan believes the guy said? It is hearsay, and doesn't shine a good light on the victim. What is the point of reporting that????

The family only wants his good side to come out but not his bad. In no way did he deserve to be beaten but it shows that he was being a jerk!

I don't think TMZ suggested Stow deserved. But it's obvious that Banda is certainly trying to suggest it. There is nothing that "crosses the line" about trash talking the dodger dog. Really, if that's Banda's defense, he deserves the negative attention.

What NO ONE in this situation deserves is physical violence! It's a dang baseball game!

The voice in the video is not Banda...its some other guys talking about the beer is over price for being old!
Banter is expected but not going over the line and i doubt thats the only bad thing he said. You never know (unless his friends start telling the truth)

You think Stow actually said "feces"? No way. He was spewing obscenities and all sorts of other thing IN AN OPPOSING TEAMS BALL PARK. Not only is he just being a rude and unruley fan, he is also ruining the experience that any children may have been having around him. Have you ever been to a ballgame where a fan of the other team is just comletely obnoxious and making the experience for everyone around him horrible? It is the worst thing ever. I'm not saying that you should go be quiet at games but there is a point where it is no longer fun and you give the people arounf you no choice but to fire back.

I'm not saying that Stow should have been beaten up in any way. Physical violence never solves anything. But being an obnoxious fan can only go so far. Especially when you get into later innings and the alcohol is involved.

He was a visiting fan at another ballpark and he thought it woul be fun to rub their World Series championship in the faces of their rivals. It's not a smart maneuver to begin with and I would be willing to bet that his mouth didn't stop when the game ended. Most likely he was shouting still in the parking lot on his way out and thats where the beating took place. I feel for the man and his family but have no sympathy because he was not being very bright in a situation where hostilities are boiling over.

Wow ...

Trash talk is not cool, but beating a man into a coma is beyond incomprehensible. Hands and feet to yourself, as taught in preschool.

"Sticks N Stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me?"

For the sake of argument, perhaps Stow was being a Jagoff....to put him in the condition he's in could never be justified.

It's time everyone grows up a little...

Another phrase that comes to mind... "We're going to hell in a hand basket"-
