Officials Won't KO Mayweather for Burning $100 Bill

7/12/2011 8:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

It appears Floyd Mayweather is getting away with a crime ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ the boxer will NOT get prosecuted for lighting a $100 bill on fire in an Atlanta nightclub this weekend.

0712_mayweather_ATL

Reps from multiple law enforcement agencies tell TMZ ... it is HIGHLY unlikely for Floyd to be charged with a crime .... with one person telling us, "Try to find a case in recent history where a person was prosecuted for destroying ONE bill. "

An official spokesperson for the Secret Service -- the agency that enforces the money burning law -- had no comment. Ditto for the United State's Attorney's Office.

It's bad enough that Floyd is burning money when the economy is in the crapper ... but what the hell is the point of the law if it's not enforced?

So, we gotta ask ...

I can't believe people voted that he should be prosecuted!!! Are you kidding me? Do you know how much it would cost tax payers to prosecute him?!!?! Give me a break!

When you're a celebrity you are suppose to be a person that someone looks up to...not burning money that a lot of people don't have, yes its his money but thats just an insult for people who are hungry and homeless, at least have a conscience and be a good example.

Might as well throw that law right out the window. There is everyone's precedence for all future actions. Although, I don't know who else would burn money like that.

JJred JJred

BJ Rocks BJ Rocks

Any U.S.dollar bill is a legal tender of America. He should be prosecuted. He could have donated it for a better cause.

kp kp

if you are arrested for being stupid there would be a heck of a lot more people in jail than there is now. He should donate some cash to the food shelf to make things right------

MoonDust MoonDust

Didn't even know that was a law. But anyways, is his loss...Seems silly to waste money and resources on this type of "crime".

DetroitRocks DetroitRocks

Make him fight Manny Pacquiao. That should be his punishment

TYPICAL NOUVEAU RICHE, I BET HE GOES HOME NEXT AND POSES IN FRONT OF HIS SCARFACE POSTER WITH A BOTTLE OF CRYSTAL WHILE ADMIRING ALL HIS TACKY GLASS AND GOLD FURNITURE. NEW MONEY IS SO UGLY.

Couldn't the city charge him with a fire code violation? I would think the lighting of paper inside a public building is a fire hazard. But then, it's probably only a $100 fine.

Why doesn't he take that $100 and feed some children. What is he proving, showing he has money to "burn"? Please get off the ego trip & do some good!

I voted "No...he should not be prosecuted"...but I meant for this. However, he has pulled a heck of a lot of other garbage that he should be in jail for right now.

A $100.00 bill is like a penny to him. I'd have been more upset if he gave it to one of these fake homeless pieces of trash lining the streets and sucking the life out of our economy.

The less bills in circulation the more a dollar is worth.
Tough thing is, with no record of bills being gone the govt has to treat it like it's still in existence somewhere.

A hundred dollar bill is just a piece of paper to him. To a lot of people that's groceries for a week. Unbelievable how some people just have money to burn.

To all of you who think that this guy should not be prosecuted because he was burning his own money... You forget that it isn´t his money he´s burning, he´s burning U.S. currency that symbolizes, guarentees and protects his earnings. Without currency, we´d be back to the bartering, mistrust, violence, and insecurity of primitive times. So this selfish loser is actually burning our currency --- something that civilized society depends on --- and therefore should be prosecuted.

People are forgetting that YES it is HIS money, but when he cashes it in for something else -- Who do you think it passes off to? US!! ...and with the lack of money California already has, we need every bill we can get.

People are so dumb.

The word ignorant means;lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated. He appears to be most of that, but my definition of Floyd; a stupid, jerk. (and that is being nice)

To all those who said YES he should be prosecuted you need to wake up! How much money do you think it would cost taxpayers to do that? I would suggest at least a million and that's money much better spent on other things.
