Officials Won't KO Mayweather for Burning $100 Bill

7/12/2011 8:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

It appears Floyd Mayweather is getting away with a crime ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ the boxer will NOT get prosecuted for lighting a $100 bill on fire in an Atlanta nightclub this weekend.

0712_mayweather_ATL

Reps from multiple law enforcement agencies tell TMZ ... it is HIGHLY unlikely for Floyd to be charged with a crime .... with one person telling us, "Try to find a case in recent history where a person was prosecuted for destroying ONE bill. "

An official spokesperson for the Secret Service -- the agency that enforces the money burning law -- had no comment. Ditto for the United State's Attorney's Office.

It's bad enough that Floyd is burning money when the economy is in the crapper ... but what the hell is the point of the law if it's not enforced?

So, we gotta ask ...

I can't believe people voted that he should be prosecuted!!! Are you kidding me? Do you know how much it would cost tax payers to prosecute him?!!?! Give me a break!

When you're a celebrity you are suppose to be a person that someone looks up to...not burning money that a lot of people don't have, yes its his money but thats just an insult for people who are hungry and homeless, at least have a conscience and be a good example.

Might as well throw that law right out the window. There is everyone's precedence for all future actions. Although, I don't know who else would burn money like that.

Any U.S.dollar bill is a legal tender of America. He should be prosecuted. He could have donated it for a better cause.

kp kp

if you are arrested for being stupid there would be a heck of a lot more people in jail than there is now. He should donate some cash to the food shelf to make things right------

MoonDust MoonDust

Didn't even know that was a law. But anyways, is his loss...Seems silly to waste money and resources on this type of "crime".

Make him fight Manny Pacquiao. That should be his punishment

Its his money. We should understand him. He is a retard outside the ring. He can do whatever he wants. The man needs a little attention. With the world's eyes on Pacquiao, Floyd shouldn't be misunderstood..

Then they should remove the law from the books; because if they don't charge Mayweather with burning money then they can never charge anybody with that ever again. Likewise they should remove "perjury" from the list of crimes because "nobody gets charged with perjury" even after someone like Cindy Anthony is proven to have lied on the witness stand.

The law that bans the burning of money would have made sense back in the day when the amount of US Currency in circulation was directly proportional to the amount of gold in our reserves. Now, we just print it off and tell people it's worth something when in reality, a $100 bill isn't close to worth the paper it's printed on. While we're talking about it: it costs more than $0.01 to make a penny - so why do we continue making and using them? If we can arbitrarily decide the value of paper than why can't we do away with a coin that people throw into a jar and wait until they've ac***ulated enough to trade them in for bills?

It is pretty disgusting to see someone be so blatantly ignorant as to do something like burning $100.00 or any money at all. I’m sure it’s not the first time this Class “A” D-Bag has done something so “impressive”. If you need to prove a point so badly to get some play with the ladies or impress your equally as D-Baggy (yes I used D-Baggy) friends and show them you have game, then they probably aren’t your friends or gal pals for the right reasons anyway. Congratulations for burning enough money to give two African villages water (via water filtration system). Congratulations of being so insecure inside that you have to do childish stunts or show off just how rich and important you really are. It’s like something you’d see on that Super Sweet 16 show, and nobody likes those kids but themselves.

I can't say I knew that burning money was a crime. So how would anyone else know this. It's not like there's a commercial of billboard that tells you if you burn money it's a crime.
