Sheen

OFFICIALLY Announces

'Anger Management'

7/18/2011 10:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Charlie Sheen has finally OFFICIALLY announced what TMZ told you last week ... that he's signed on to star in a new sitcom based on the movie "Anger Management."

Charlie Sheen New Show

The powers behind the show released a statement this morning describing the premise -- "a mild-mannered, non-confrontational man is ordered to attend group anger management sessions led by a therapist who could probably use some anger management himself."

As TMZ first reported, Sheen will play the role of the therapist -- loosely based on Jack Nicholson's character in the movie "Anger Management."

In the statement, Sheen explains, "I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept."

Sheen's involvement in the series will also be more significant than in series past -- the actor adds, “[AM] also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth.”

Roth has worked with Charlie on 5 projects, including "Major League," "Young Guns" and "Three Musketeers."

Roth says, “With Charlie’s incredible talent and comedic gifts, he remains the leading man of TV sitcoms. I’m excited to collaborate with him once again.”

The show -- distributed by DebMar-Mercury -- has not yet been picked up by a network.

Look Two and a half Men had a great lead in when they started Everybody Loves Raymond..Charlie Sheen gave Ray Romano credit for this.
Nobody has ever said that Charlie has ever been difficult to work with. Chuck Lorre and Warner Bros said he was difficult in order for the company to save Chuck Lorre's failure to produce scripts back in January after the Christmas Hiatus...Charlie Sheen has been the scapegoat..he decided to fight back...its still not over by the way. So instead of Chuck Lorre cancelling the show he is going to have to produce one more season of Two and a half Men in order not to payback all the money that was given ahead for syndication. Chuck Lorre doesn't give a crap about ratings he just cares about not going broke because he would be in breach of contract.
So all you haters out there against Charlie Sheen your hate is misdirected...it should be to the arrogant son of a ***** Chuck Lorre. He doesn't care if Ashton fails...

Charlie Sheen is a talented actor and I have enjoyed his movies for years....Anger Management should be an HBO show if they are smart. Money is on the cable shows doesn't his buddy Mark own a station or two? The three main ABC NBC and CBS are going down. Don't bother with the small stuff....people hate commercials...go with something you don't have ridiculous censorship..

Why would i want to watch a snaggle-toothed, ugly, pensioner with no talent in a how based on a movie that was sh*t-terrible? He looks 100. And he looks like he probably stinks.

So, now we have the "official" news confirmed by Lionsgate. P.T. Barnum said that a sucker is born every minute - so I guess its not too surprising that someone was willing to give Charlie another chance. Moreover, as Charlie has ownership interest in the show in several respects, he may be (at least in part) bankrolling the show.

Anyway, as has been pointed out, Its still wait and see if a pilot is made, a network buys it, etc. At least its not a TV series version of Lionsgate's "Saw" horror movie series.

IMO, Charlie would be more convincing these days as the protagonist in a horror show than as a therapist in a comedy show. At any rate, sleaze sells in many genres so nothing would surprise me where Charlie is concerned. Well, maybe not "nothing" - his suddenly developing good taste would surprise me.
