'Dancing w/ the Stars' -- Sorry for All the D-Listers

7/24/2011 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Say goodbye to the likes of Ralph Macchio and Kendra Wilkinson on "Dancing with the Stars" ... TMZ has learned producers are on the hunt for more "high profile" celebs next season ... in the hopes of cutting down on the gimmicky stars they've booked in the past.

Sources connected to the show tell TMZ ... producers are under direct orders to find "more high profile" people than in the past seasons ... after booking a string of D-listers like The Situation, Kate Gosselin, Audrina Patridge, Jake Pavelka and Holly Madison.

In order to lock down the BIG names, we're told producers are offering A-listers complete control over their rehearsal schedule -- telling them there's NO minimum rehearsal requirements ... and they can practice as little or as much as they want.

Celebs will also have final say on music selections and costume design ... including colors, cuts and styles.

So far, no word if producers have signed any of the "high profile" people in their crosshairs.

I agree with Big heat elf...this is a bad idea. I also think it's very wrong to lump Ralph Macchio in with the likes of Gate Gosselin, Holly Madison, Jake Pavelka and The Situation...he was a movie star. And I'm very surprised you didn't include Bristol Palin in that D-List group...there's no way she deserved to be on the show.
This new format isn't gonna work...you simply can't offer A-listers complete control over their rehearsal schedule (no minimum rehearsal requirements), and they can practice as little or as much as they want. I'm sure the pros are gonna love it...ah, no! Anyway, I don't think many A-listers would want to be on the show. And let's hope none of the Lohans or "Snooki" are on...that'll certainly force me to stop watching.

Erin Andrews was no has been. They should bring her back on and all of the others who finished in 3 place. Bring back old contestants to compete again.

I love the show. I don't mind if the "celebs" aren't actual "A" listers. Who really is anyway? I just don't like when they have "fake celebs" like reality show whores and people I have never heard about. I loved having Priscilla Presley on the show. She's not an "A" lister, but she is of royalty from being married to Elvis. I loved having Ralph Macchio on the show. He may not be condisdered an "A" lister anymore, but he is one hot man, great actor and great person. He was very likeable and I had wondered where he went.

Seriously, if the show decides on costume and music and partner choices, they have influential control over the outcome too. It's just fluff.

I think its great to see big names but its also nice to see old favorites from TV and movies... We want to see Melissa Gilbert & Lee Meriwether but sure would be nice to see the likes of Martha Stewart or Eva Longoria.. remain flexible Dancing with the Stars!! :)

Ralph Macchio was an A list, that never really goes away... How about not casting reality TV nobodies like the bachelors or the pukey shore losers.!!

It is great television to see a D-list celebrity who is finding a revenue stream and new found marketability by seriously competing on DWTS. That's what made the show watchable. Go ahead though, ruin another show just like Idol....

Shouldn't they have realized this like.......a gazillion seasons ago? It's become Dancing with the zlisters.......but I still don't think Oprah or Clint Eastwood will be dancing anytime soon...

I liked Audrina Patridge on DWTS. She went and disassembled herself after the show. Hate that! Wouldn't want to see her now but she was great last fall!

I have always said that that word stars in the title was used loosely. Goodbye has-beens/wanna-be's!

Didn't there used to be like 'Battle of the Network Stars?' Remember seeing it on TV. Maybe DWTS could be something like that. IDK.
