THE MAYOR HAS MY BACK!

Jalen Rose
has some powerful friends -- including the Mayor of Detroit -- who wrote up a very personal letter to the judge in Jalen's DUI case to show the NBA star is remorseful and deserves mercy.

TMZ has obtained a copy of the letter written by Mayor Dave Bing -- a former Detroit Pistons star who is considered one of the greatest 50 NBA players of all time.

In the document, sent to the court before Jalen's sentence was handed out, Bing says, "I have known Jalen since the day he was born."

He adds, "I can assure you that Jalen fully comprehends the danger he posed on March 11. Jalen has assured me, but more importantly, he has assured himself, that this will never happen again."

Bing concludes, "I fully believe Jalen was truthful to me when he stated: 'I will never drink and drive again or ever be in any other court for any violation of the law."

Unfortunately for Jalen, Bing's letter -- and other letters written to the judge from friends of Rose -- weren't effective enough ... and the judge ordered him to serve 20 days in jail.

Rose's lawyer has called the sentence "Outrageous."

Why, because he is famous? It is good to see that this judge considers everyone equal.

Bing was a better basketball player than a mayor, and Judge Small is an overbearing, incompetent judge. And, of course, they are both Republican - not known for their compassion. Small's own daughter has been arrested for drug possession and I am sure this judge has alcohol or drug issues herself.

There is an overwhelming amount of negative information about Judge Small located in a court file in the U.S. District Court in Detroit. One case involved a former court employee who won a 3 million dollar verdict after a federal jury concluded that Judge Small had no credibility. The case involved allegations of fixed traffic tickets, criminal favors and abuse of the LEIN system.

I rest my case on this judge.

And this letter was before going 46 mph in a 25 mph zone. Hmm...what would the mayor think if this model citizen hit someone in that 25 mph zone? (Think...what area's are zoned 25 mph?)

REALLY??? 20 days is nothing, considering they will probably only give him 5 days because of the overcrowding in our Detroit/County jails!! I know a "normal" person who went in front of the SAME judge for the same crime and got 90 days! It doesnt seem like Jalen is as concerned with doing the time as his attorney! Just do the time and be done with it, I AM PAYING FOR IT ANYWAYS as a Michigan resident!

DUI in Michigan is treated as a serious offense - all Michigan drivers are aware of this - why should he be treated any differently? The law is the LAW, Jalen Rose.

These are the repercussions of hi*****red for Duke. Somewhere down the line, the judge knows someone who knows Kevin Bacon who knows Mike Krzyzewski. Yo Jalen, don't start none and there won't be none, ya dig?! Karma at its finest!

No one should ever get behind the wheel and drive drunk. That being said, he is a first time offender and receives 20 years in jail. I know a few people who've had one DUI and none of them received jail time. Then we have Lindsay Lohan with two DUIs and during one of them she has cocaine as well. No jail time? Violates her probation numerous times and the most time she ever spent in jail was two weeks. Unbelievable.
