'30 Mins or Less' INFURIATES

Friends of REAL Bomb Victim

8/7/2011 6:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Jesse Eisenberg
's new movie about a pizza delivery boy who's abducted, outfitted with a bomb, and forced to rob a bank ... is PISSING OFF friends of a man who was killed under VERY similar circumstances ... TMZ has learned.

The movie -- "30 Minutes or Less" -- is being promoted as a comedy flick. But back in 2003, nobody was laughing when 46-year-old pizza man Brian Wells DIED when a bomb strapped around his neck exploded after he tried to rob a bank.

Wells insisted he was abducted during a pizza delivery in Pennsylvania -- claiming the bombmaker locked an explosive device around his neck and ordered him to rob a bank.

Cops placed Wells in handcuffs ... but backed away from the guy when they realized the bomb was REAL. The bomb exploded while news cameras rolled ... and Wells was killed instantly.

Years later, federal prosecutors alleged Brian concocted the plan with several other people. One of the plotters insisted Brian was under the impression an actual bomb would NOT be used.

TMZ spoke with one of Brian's closest friends who tells us he's outraged that Hollywood would mock Wells' death ... calling the movie "trash."

The friend tells us, "It's stupid the movie is even coming out ... producers can go jump in a lake for all I care!"
He adds, "Doesn't Brian have a right to die? They're blowing something up that should never have even happened in the first place and now they wanna make a joke out of it ... it's really tragic."

A rep for Columbia Pictures tells TMZ, "Neither the filmmakers nor the stars of '30 Minutes or Less' were aware of this crime prior to their involvement in the film."

The rep adds, "The writers were vaguely familiar with what had occurred and wrote an original screenplay that does not mirror the real-life tragedy. "

The reps from Columbia are liars, how did you NOT hear about the Brian Wells case. I didn't know the guys name but I was familiar with the incident . Don't know if the family should be speaking out or not or if they have any legal options but Columbia... Really you werent familiar with the real life case? BS

Sorry the idiot was the architect of his own demise, he deserves no consideration.

Prosecutors, sure, it was all made up. This man willingly had a bomb strapped on him, tried to rob a bank and allowed himself to blow up. If that's not insulting enough, they want to make a joke out of it?

The orignal man was apart of the scheme...if he was stupid enough to not only risk his life but others because he was wearing a bomb..he thought it was fake you say?? who cares?? a criminal is a criminal plain and simple...this movie is not in bad taste..and i highly doubt they meant to mirror what happend...I heard a story where they kidnapped a pregnant lady and made her rob her own bank..but i don't see her complaining??? theres always going to be idoits in the world who commit such horrible crimes and theres always going to be writers who come up with an idea orignal or not about it..

For all you people who thinks it's ok to make fun of a personal tragedy to someone's family that EVERYONE heard about, why not make a "comedy" about the Casey Anthony case since their were so many symphasizers. We can be idiots & say it's bound to happen bc it's Hollywood. I'm sure someone will say "they were vaguely familiar" with that story also.

Another tasteless Hollywood movie, and unoriginal (surprise) at that.

Doesn't sound like a particularly funny premise for a movie but his friends have no right to complain. It's not a biopic or based on that real life event (not to mention the dude wasn't an innocent bystander). You can't ban every movie that involves a death by car crash or plane crash or gun fire just because someone had a friend that it happened to. How about we ban all war pics because people have friends that die at war. If we go down that path we'd have to ban every police procedural on TV as well.

So this dumba$$ tries to rob a bank with a bomb around his neck, It backfires (HaHa) and blows up. That stupid act saved tax payers a ton of money what with trials and prison costs. The outrage would have been if the bomb would have killed someone who was innocent like the tellers or the cops. This Jacka$$ deserved what he got so what someone makes fun of him, do some more research and see if he was on the dumbest crooks show if not he should have been. I say I am going to pay to see that movie and I am glad they made the movie maybe it will keep some other numbskull from doing it. As for the family and frends of Brian screw your selves he deserved to die.

I saw this commercial the other day and was like WTF they made a comedy out of it, that's fd up!

I find it very hard to believe no one heard of this case. It was huge! American's Most wanted did a hour special on it. You should interview John Walsh, I love to hear him go off!

I actually got to see this movie in a pre-screening a week or two ago and it was just plain hilarious. If you see it, it has more plot to it then just the pizza guy bomb. All the characters in the movie make it just amazing, go see it for yourself and decide if its similar or not.

Nobody knew about the real case? Get real. Yes, everyone knows, Hollywood is stuffed full of some of the most ignorant, clueless walking idiots on earth (just listen to them talk about any social or political issue for 20 seconds, and you realize that--see Matt Damon's pathetic rant on teachers to see what I mean), but get real. They think we're as clueless as they are if they expect us to believe that lie.
