The Monkees

Don't Blame US for

MAJOR Tour Screwup!

8/9/2011 5:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The Monkees ain't too busy to put anybody down these days ... because they're coming out swinging against the people they blame for screwing up the rest of their concert tour.

Earlier today, the band announced they would be canceling the remaining 9 dates on their U.S. tour ... but they wouldn't explain why.

Now, TMZ has spoken with a rep for drummer/ lead vocalist Micky Dolenz -- who tells us, "Management had booked a number of dates with the venues without running them by the group first ... so we had to cancel the remaining dates."

The rep adds, "Micky is disappointed but his solo tour is still going strong for the rest of the year."

There are rumors that the tour was canceled because Micky had checked himself into rehab for a substance abuse problem -- but the rep tells us it's total BS ... saying, "It has nothing to do with any sort of substance abuse whatsoever."

We tried getting in contact with the main person responsible for booking the tour -- but we were advised by his company that the man "no longer works here anymore."

Oh well

Them on tour really surprises me, seen davy a couple years ago at a show in a casino, he was really dissing them two saying they would never be together again.

TMZ, please keeps us updated about this. There are actually a lot of curious Monkee fans out there. I don't understand why they are canceling these dates now. It's not like they didn't know about them... I bought my tickets a couple months ago...

Patent Attorney

The Monkees started out as a marvelous mock Beatles-esque group on television. For years they entertained audiences with their kitch humor and funny ideas that John Lennon and friends made famous. The group was inspired by the Beatles' film A Hard Day's Night. They wanted to devise a television series about a rock 'n' roll group similar to the titular band. They might not have been as prolific as the aforementioned band they were poking fun at, they were actually talented musicians. Like many of the bands in that era, they began making records that were pop and eventually explored rhythm and blues and then ventured into psychedelic rock after the summer of love in 1967. Their pinnacle record Head based off of their feature film of the same name was an amazing display of what they were capable of as a serious music making outfit.

Micky definitely is not in rehab. He just stayed at the hotel I work at about 2 weeks ago.

Mike Nesmith's reasons for not doing the tours includes that he is extremely wealthy. His mother invented/patented liquid paper (which no one under 30 likely knows about, but it was a huge deal back in the typewriter era for blotting out mistakes), and he inherited her fortune.

really. I thought they were all dead. Lack of interest is a kind way of putting it.

It's Karmic payback for all the rotten things Davy Jones said about Mike Nesmith recently.

I have heard nothing but good reviews for this show. And to the haters-they were selling tickets, some venues selling out. I for one, bought front row tickets to see them next month, and they cancelled!! So disappointed! Darn it! Love these guys!

I'm a guitarist who's played shows with both Peter and Mickey as a back-up musician. They're both arrogant d-bags who think they're still famous and angry that they aren't. Did a show with Mickey last summer in NJ and he was wasted on something, so those rumors are probably true.
