"To Catch A Predator"

Judge Dismisses Sex Case

Says Dateline Entrapped Sailor

8/16/2011 5:16 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A sailor caught in the web of Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" was just acquitted of all charges, after the judge ruled NBC engaged in entrapment.

Joseph Roisman was prosecuted for lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor, after allegedly arranging a meeting with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Judge Arthur Wick in Sonoma County, California, threw the case out after the prosecution presented its case, ruling prosecutors failed to prove Roisman had an intent to have sex with the decoy.

Roisman's lawyer, L. Stephen Turer, lashed out at the tactics of the people responsible for "To Catch a Predator," saying "They took everything away from this kid just to make a TV show."

Turer added, "This case is the poster child for the abuse in this program."

There were 29 arrests as a result of the Dateline sting.  28 of the defendants pled guilty without going to trial.  This is the only case of the 29 that went to trial, and Dateline's tactics were squarely repudiated.

NBC could not be reached for comment.

That show did more to promote predators than eliminate them. Every perverted old man tha*****ched the show went away with the impression that there are loads of kids on line just waiting to have sex with old dudes if he's just careful not to get caught.

Well after all....this IS America.....where you can kill your kid, keep her in a trunk, dump her body and have a jury acquit you....so this doesn't surprise me at all.

It is a California Court - what else is the explanation. Now the preditor is free to strike again - this time he may be successful and harm a young person. Sad!

Uh

When will you kiddy's ever learn? A trial's outcome has nothing to do with the guilt or innocence of the defendant. Rather, the outcome determines whether the law has been violated. And the process of determining same is based on a judge's subjectivity or jury members (some or all of whom can be illiterate, uneducated, etc.) Yup..greatest system in the world. Have I got a deal for you.....

How can you be charged with the intention of having sex with an underage girl when the decoy is over 18? Good for the judge on this one. There is enough real crime out there to prosecute!

I always thought entrapment was the domain of police... the chat transcripts proved what this person wanted to do.. and this creep brought exactly what the "13 year old" said to bring. That proves intent. One citizen can't "entrap" another when the other citizen is a willing participant. It's like the sting they did many years ago about child porn through the mail. They kept sending this one fellow offers, and he ignored them... but he finally capitulated and got himself some "juicy" kiddie porn. His defense? "I figured if I got the porn they'd stop sending me mail." Bull****.

This isn't pre-crime stuff... this is real crime. And Dateline, while shady... is just the display. PervertedJustice is the real group behind this. If you go to their site, you'll wish this turd was thrown in GP... so the rest of the inmates can show him what they do to child predators.

I think a lot of you are missing the point. Look no-one wants older guys banging 14 year girls. But its quite simple, the decoys NBC were using were NOT underage so no crime was committed. In fact, I dont think its legal for the anyone to use an underage decoy for anything in any state for any reason.

Sickening that anyone can defend these subhumans.... they mentally believe they are chatting with a child - doesn't matter if it's someone playing the part - I'm glad these pervs are outted on TV.... imagine the harm they could have done if it were a real situation and not a television production....

California Judges are fools. No wonder Cali has so many problems. Here's a freak thinking he's talking to a 13 year old on the internet about sex and then shows up to what he thinks is her house and he has no intent of having sex with her? POS! The creeper and the judge! I hate liberals!

This show is now "TRASHED" Good!

People were tired of seeing lives of individual's and their families ruined.
Some men were curious, stupid, or from countries were having minor's was ok (not a good excuse)

BUT ALL WERE ENTRAPPED IN THOSE NBC RENTED HOMES AND ROUNDED-UP LIKE HOG'S UNDER CAMERA LIGHT'S with the world watching. Cruel.

OOOOhhhhhh, I get it, it's okay for the 'PREDATOR" to entrap helpless victims , but is isn't okay for the GOOD GUYS to catch them at their game ?

Wow , i thinks we should take a closer look at some of these judges who make these rulings , i didn't hear the whole story but on its face His/Her Honor should err on the side of the the victims NOT the SHADY PERVERTS.

For once, justice has prevailed. It's good to see a judge smart for once and realize how terrible these kinds of shows are. I have said all along it's clear entrapment. I don't condone this type of behavior, but clearly it's a show setting up these people so they purposely put themselves in these situations.
