"To Catch A Predator"

Judge Dismisses Sex Case

Says Dateline Entrapped Sailor

8/16/2011 5:16 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0816-tcap-joseph-roisman-BN
A sailor caught in the web of Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" was just acquitted of all charges, after the judge ruled NBC engaged in entrapment.

Joseph Roisman was prosecuted for lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor, after allegedly arranging a meeting with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Judge Arthur Wick in Sonoma County, California, threw the case out after the prosecution presented its case, ruling prosecutors failed to prove Roisman had an intent to have sex with the decoy.

Roisman's lawyer, L. Stephen Turer, lashed out at the tactics of the people responsible for "To Catch a Predator," saying "They took everything away from this kid just to make a TV show."

Turer added, "This case is the poster child for the abuse in this program."

There were 29 arrests as a result of the Dateline sting.  28 of the defendants pled guilty without going to trial.  This is the only case of the 29 that went to trial, and Dateline's tactics were squarely repudiated.

NBC could not be reached for comment.

The following is my link to a Treatise on Legal Semiotics that explains the insanity of such leagal thinking...

http://legalsemiotics.yolasite.com/

It is a legal impossibility that an object/symbolic entity that police departments create actually exist. Law enforcement creates an entity that tests the boundaries of semiotics. Since semiotics is easier to define by what is not rather than what is. Semiotics links linguistic and non-linguistic information to offer plausible conclusions that place the interpretation of language in a social context also known as semiosphere or for this purpose – a chat room. The recursive nature of computers allows for interesting questions regarding the believability of law enforcement’s created entity

It just occured to me that we have not even begun to address the criminality of the girls on the opposite end of these encounters. All these hot 13-18 year old girls trolling forums looking for old men to have sex with. They are criminals who are seeking to break the law! We need to be arresting them, as well as the perverts they pull in.

We also need to be enforcing the pornography laws surrounding sexting. With so many childhood perverts breaking the laws of our land with their sexual perversions and exposures, it makes feel warm inside that we have Megans law there to protect us from them. We need to be adding all of their names to the sexual predators lists, so we can know when they have moved into our neighborhoods and shun them like the perverts they are.

This is ridiculous..entrapment or not this perv was thinking he was going to meet up with a young girl. For all of you yelling entrapment, yea you think thats what it is..till it happens to your young son or daughter.

@SL: I couldn't agree with you more! Of course my daughters live in a home environment where they are educated about the dangers of sexual predators, sexting, and what not. It also so happens thatthey find guys who are even a year older than themselves to be "disgustingly old", but that doesn't mean there aren't millions of other 13 year old girls who actually do hang out in internet chat rooms just looking to have sex with guys 30 years their senior.

It is probably poor families who raise such criminals, because they don't have the time to stay at home and educate them, with two working parents and all. What we need is the state to educate these children for us, and incarcerate where necessary. I can't see how we can expect the onus of child rearing to fall on parents!

Chris Hansen is really a humble and moral public servant, helping the rest of us to stay on the shinning moral path he exemplifies.

Leader of the ignorant masses

If this show was serious about catching predators they would work strictly within the letter of the law similar to America's Most Wanted. To help ensure that the people caught are not able to get out of it. Instead they choose to use shady Hollywood practices and that is why the judge let that guy off. The judge did what he had to according to law, not personal preference. That is why police follow procedure, or else the criminal gets off. They could have done a good public service here instead they chose to be greedy and shortcut just for ratings. At least they get humiliated on tv and people know who they are in their communities.

Mr. Murdoc

The police have been conducting these kinds of operations since the advent of the internet, just as this one was as well.
Only difference was that it was filmed for TV this time. And after all the successful "smoking gun" prosecutions of cases exactly like this one over the years...THIS ONE was entrapment??!! GTFOH!!! To all you idiots, including the "judge", saying that it was..."My name is Chris Hansen...have a seat for me please."
Think it's time we checked some computers on this post! Sounds like some guys who won't be able to drive school buses in NY anymore! Look it up, losers...after you're done "surfing" this evening.

yeah genius, good for the judge for letting an idiot who tried to meet up with a 13 year old girl run the streets. its a good thing people like this guy joins the military. we really need uneducated perverts with child-abusing tendencies to be all that they can be for our country. i dont care if it is on a television show or not...he did what he did. what the h%ll do you think he went over there to do?!?!?! play yahtzee and listen to justin bieber with the 13 year old kid?????? i think not. COMMON SENSE will give anybody the correct assumption regarding his intentions...obviosuly they were lewd and lascivious when it came to potential interactions with a minor. if not for this show, guys like him wouldnt ever get caught. think of how many disgusting lowlifes are out there who never get caught.

Ridiculous....this is why these lower then s*** pos child predators continue to do these things to our children...Leave it to California to deem this child rapist innocent...I wonder how the judge would feel about him if it was his/her child that was raped....Karma judge, karma!
