Gerard Butler Sued

Ex-Workers Claim

They're Owed Overtime Pay

8/16/2011 5:10 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0816_gerard_butler_shin_getty_exGerard Butler and a slew of other stars have been sued for allegedly stiffing two former employees out of overtime pay at a Hollywood restaurant the celebs co-own.

The ex-workers -- a cook and a dishwasher -- at Shin BBQ filed the suit today in Los Angeles County Superior Court ... claiming the owners cheated them out of wages, rest time, and meal breaks.

Shin BBQ is a popular Korean barbeque joint in Hollywood ... co-owned by Gerard, Danny and Chris Masterson, Laura Prepon, and several others including Steve Aoki -- whose father Rocky founded Benihana.

The workers are asking for their back pay, other damages, and an order forcing the restaurant owners to open their payroll books.

See to it that your employees get paid for their work, actor/celebrity/restaurateurs!

Do the right thing!

Either that, or use the system in place to SCREW your low-income earning employees...

The American way?

And why are they "ex-workers"?
They were fired for incompetence.

They are not entitled for money not earned.

Celebrities don't have to pay people for anything. That cook and dishwasher should have been grateful to donate their services for free to their celebrity owners. They have a lot of nerve to ask to get paid for their overtime work. They were lucky be paid anything at all. What kind of workers are so greedy and stingy that they won't volunteer to work for free for celebrities? This is what's wrong with America. Every common, low, average, regular worker with his or her hand out expecting to be paid a salary just for doing their jobs. They should have got their satisfaction by doing their jobs and gone to the food shelter, homeless shelter or sifted through garbage cans for food for themselves. The celebrities should sue this cook and dishwasher for mental distress, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life. This must all be Obama's fault. The Democrats are giving people ideas they should be paid something for just working. Governor Rick Perry will teach them the error of their ways. If they don't like, Rick Perry knows how to execute capital punishment in Texas. He can do for America what he did for Texas. Fire 47,000 teachers in Texas, so fire 470,000 teachers in America. That'll start solving all the problems.

The article says that "Shin BBQ is a popular Korean barbeque joint in Hollywood".

Koreans like to eat dogs. Do they serve dogs in that restaurant? Ask them what kind of dogs they have. If they say "fried" and "baked", then the answer is "Yes".

I would be talking to the accountant, not the owners. I doubt Gerry or any of the other owners sit down and figure the payroll. I would work for free for Gerry any day!

The workers are probably right. There's quite a few places that work restaurant employees over 40 hours and don't pay overtime. Heck a lot of people in general, one of the biggest scams in America is when people offer people a fixed Salary for working more than 40 hours a week.

The celebrity owners make their profits by hiring lackey managers who oppress their workers by for eg. not paying the restaurant cooks and dishwashers for the overtime they worked and not allowing them meal or coffee breaks.

And you want to let the celebrity owners off the hook by claiming they didn't know what was going on and how the workers were mistreated? Face the facts. The celebrity owners didn't give 2 *****es or even 1 *****e how the workers of the restaurant they own were treated or if they were paid for their work. All they cared about were the prestige and profits they got from owning the restaurant. You should get real! The celebrity owners are a bunch of misanthropes, ie. They couldn't give a *****e about regular workers whom they view as a means to their greater glory and wealth.

@Jackie:

You obviously don't understand or appreciate the sarcasm and facetiousness of those posters who said the workers should be happy working for celebrities without being paid. They were kidding to make a point. You obviously didn't get it.
