David Carradine

Wife Settles Lawsuit

Over Actor's Auto-Erotic Death

8/17/2011 10:54 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0817-david-carradine-EX
David Carradine's wife has just settled her case against the production company of the movie David was shooting when he died of auto-erotic asphyxiation ... TMZ has learned.

Anne Carradine had sued MK2 Productions, claiming they had a duty to supervise David while he was on the shoot for the movie, "Stretch."  Anne claims the night David died in his Thailand hotel room, the production staff had gone to dinner and told David he would have to make his own arrangements for the evening.

Sources tell us that MK2 paid Anne money to settle.  And, we're told the other defendants -- including the hotel and insurance company have settled as well.

In all, sources say Anne will get around $400,000 from the defendants.

Okay, so the production company was supposed to BABYSIT a grown man and keep him from killing himself in a bizarre sex act? Whatever happened to personal responsibility? You know, I (still) feel almost sorry for him ending his life this humiliating way, but I have NO RESPECT for his widow-this is just a money grab.

Where is the "personal responsibility" anymore? People are always looking to blame someone else AND to sue. They shouldn't have settled -although I am sure it was easier for them to do and cheaper --- this type of extortion should be fought each and every time.

It was NOT their fault he killed himself. Carradine was the one who played with fire and lost.

It was probably cheaper to just pay her off. IMO, there is no way she would have won this lawsuit.. No way in the world.. These frivolous lawsuits need to end and people need to stand up for themselves against them --- otherwise, shysters will continue to abuse our civil courts.

You'd think a guy that was about to hang himself to get off...might have the presence of mind to get a spotter. A blindfolded spotter...but a spotter, nonetheless. And because of that stoopid move...the producers of Kung Fu...want their pebble back!

Maybe it was in his contract that the studio was supposed to provide a spotter whenever he stroked it with a belt around his neck. When they told him he was on his own, he took that as his queue to go solo.

to me this looks like a case of it's cheaper to settle than it is to continue with fighting it because 400K sn't much to these companies
.
no way should they be responsible for "supervising" him...he was an adult hired to do a job
how were they supposed to know what his private sexual history was!?!
.
if companies now have to cover their butts in anticipation of these kind of lawsuits, they will start to hire "babysitters" to be with the stars 24/7 and then you'll really hear the stars complaining about lack of privacy

Were they supposed to have someone sit with him 24 hours a day? He definately went too far with his erotic plaesures and I'm sure he was just trying to get the ultimate come shot, but it wasn't the studios fault he died. They shouldn't have to pay his wife a dime. Oh well. People will sell their souls to the Devil if it means getting money for nothing.

Another case of "legal blackmail"; it was cheaper to pay her off than it would have been to defend themselves. Sigh.

Hey, he was a big boy. He chose to pull his pud while doing something stupid. Nobody's fault but his. Nobody should have had to pay a cent over this ... "event."

why would anybody else be held responsible?! did his wife expect the guy to be monitored 24/7?

sorry that your husband died but he died at his own hands.

I personally would have liked this to go to trial - the opening & closing arguments, the re-enactments, the battle of the experts - the testimony - "In the past, ma'am, do you believe the crew's supervision kept your husband from death?" "Oh,yes. - I personally supervised his non-death when he was not on location. It always worked."

Does this mean I have to hire a babysitter for my husband when I go out without him?

Pathetic, MK2 should pay NOTHING. Its not their fault the guy was a sicko and hung himself.

¡¿Art?!

Absolutely ridiculous. Nobody but David Carradine was at fault here.
