Casey Anthony's Lawyer

Investigated By State Bar

8/18/2011 7:21 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's lawyer, is being investigated by the State Bar of Florida, for possible ethical violations -- specifically, hiding information from the court.

The probe was triggered over a dogfight involving Anthony's 2010 conviction for check fraud.  She was placed on 1 year's probation, but the judge in the case made it clear on the bench -- the time Casey sat in jail awaiting her murder trial would not count toward the completion of probation.

Here's the problem ... the judge screwed up, and when he wrote the order placing Anthony on probation, it mistakenly read that the jail time would count toward completing probation.

Anthony's lawyers acted as if the written order was the final word, and as a result authorities -- who were in the dark -- determined Anthony had completed her probation.

The Chief Judge of the court lashed out at Baez, saying, "Our system of justice should never be in the position of rewarding someone who willfully hides the ball," adding, Baez may have violated "an attorney's duty of candor."

On Baez' part, he told the judge he did indeed know about the trial judge's error but felt he had no obligation to inform the court.

The State Bar of Florida is now investigating the matter.

The court makes a mistake and the lawyer has to pay?! The judge and court should be punished, not the ears on which this mistake fell. Our system worked because the PROSECUTION failed to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and 12 people- TWELVE, not one- agreed en masse that, while probably guilty, it wasn't proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Because the DA's office is angry that they were made to look like fools they are now pulling strings to mug this guy in pseudo-back-alley fashion.

Those of you who are judging him because he got his client off need to get over yourselves. She probably did it..."PROBABLY", meaning "not a 100% certainty", which is what our constitution calls for. This isn't a third-world country where we punish based on accusations, so either appreciate our system or do something to try to change it.

en Todo Momento!!

i mean if they are 2 separate cases (breaking of laws, etc) then you can't just summarize them all into one case, and say she completed probation for an entirely different issue. if there is still a check fraud issue pending, she should have to take care of that. unless it is involved in her case with her daughter.

Just like you mistakenly receive an extra $100 when you cash a check at the bank, you will eventually have to give it back. He just proved what a creep and sneaky snake he is.

If I ever needed a lawyer I would give him a call.
He represents his client to the best of his ability.
Like other lawyers he might be a slime ball but he is good at what he does,

It was said that she had 1 (one) visit from a probation officer. I have never heard of anyone serving probation in jail and I know if you do not pay in full the cost for probation, the probationer is in violation and will be returned to jail. What was the terms of the probation none of these details are being talked about. Was there a visit every month, where is the record of the visits. among other things. There were a lot of special favors given casey that the ordinary citizen would not have gotten but needs to be done right. Restitution what happen to that. Did her friend get any of her money back? I know this is playing out for a movie but come on.

Baez talks and acts like he has NO RESPECT for the law. His day will come, and how!!! Everyone who consorts with that Casey Marie Anthony will pay a price. Baez must be ticked off that he isn't getting the million dollar offers coming in for his "client", Casey Marie Anthony. The world does not want to hear more of her LIES. She will pay, sooner or's just a matter of time. Why doesn't the IRS go after her for the $78,000.00 that she owes IRS , from when she got $250,000 or $350,000 for selling poor, defenceless little Caylee's pictures to some news media organization. Why not charge her with TAX EVASION???? After all, that $78,000.00 is actually tax payers' money!!!! Where do her criminal acts end, without any punishment or penalty!!!! The IRS should go after her.

AGAIN, your article is in error! Judge did not make error, he verbally ordered the one year probation to commence upon release from jail. The clerk who transcribed the order left off the end of the sentence about serving probation after release from jail. Baez, his team, and Casey Anthony knew she was to serve one year probation after release from jail but wasn't going to let anyone know about the transcriber's mistake. He, Cheney Mason and Dorothy Clay Sims are as evil and crooked as they come. They planned to beat the system AGAIN -- but this time they were caught. Great thing, KARMA. Too bad KARMA doesn't visit each one of them individually.
