Casey Anthony's Lawyer

Investigated By State Bar

Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's lawyer, is being investigated by the State Bar of Florida, for possible ethical violations -- specifically, hiding information from the court.

The probe was triggered over a dogfight involving Anthony's 2010 conviction for check fraud.  She was placed on 1 year's probation, but the judge in the case made it clear on the bench -- the time Casey sat in jail awaiting her murder trial would not count toward the completion of probation.

Here's the problem ... the judge screwed up, and when he wrote the order placing Anthony on probation, it mistakenly read that the jail time would count toward completing probation.

Anthony's lawyers acted as if the written order was the final word, and as a result authorities -- who were in the dark -- determined Anthony had completed her probation.

The Chief Judge of the court lashed out at Baez, saying, "Our system of justice should never be in the position of rewarding someone who willfully hides the ball," adding, Baez may have violated "an attorney's duty of candor."

On Baez' part, he told the judge he did indeed know about the trial judge's error but felt he had no obligation to inform the court.

The State Bar of Florida is now investigating the matter.

This case is ovah! If the dumb judge made the mistake or the second dumb judge didn't catch it, oh, well. Nothing is going to bring back that little girl and all this post-trial posturing" by the Florida legal community isn't going to bring that baby back. Casey Anthony had a trial; it was adjudicated and however unpopular the result, the verdict was read and the case decided. It is time to move on. Keeping the case alive is still putting money in the TV talking heads' pockets, however. The rest of us have lives to live. Maybe that's not true of Nancy Grace. You'd think with a hubby and twins she would have enough to do without jumping up and down on the Casey Anthony bandbox forever. She's like a buzzard hovering around that little girl's body, looking for some more flesh to eat.

I agree with every comment made that Baez is a s***bag lawyer who has made me realize with have such types in our legal system. One thing to defend a client, another to make up trash on every one that had anything to do with Casey. Lies that hurt every one and we are suppose to applaude that? I hope he is disbarred for his behavior , at least sanctioned!

I ,also, do not like Jane valez-mitchell's comments asking for mercy (slack) for friend Baez. I join the rest of trew boycotting her show. Just because they are Latinos, Jane, Jean, Geraldo and others covering for a sleeze bag lawyer that broke the moral laws of A ONCE GREAT COUNTRY that now is tainted with the worst of other countries practicing street crap. Fed up!

If anyone is at fault here it's the judge who signed the order incorrectly.....Jose Baez has no obligation to inform the courts. It's not Baez fault the trial judge failed to do his job. This investigation is a bunch of crap!

Casey Anthony's Lawyer's Checkered Background

It has taken a while for Baez to establish himself as a defense lawyer. Despite graduating from law school in 1997, the Navy veteran was denied admission to the Florida bar for eight years until 2005.

An order by the Supreme Court of Florida states that he was denied admission because of his failure to pay child support to his ex-wife and secure life and health insurance for his teenage daughter. It states that he had previously declared bankruptcy, written bad checks and defaulted on student loans, the court said.

The Florida Supreme Court said his financial mishaps coupled with failure to pay child support "show a lack of respect for the rights of others and a total lack of respect for the legal system, which is absolutely inconsistent with the character and fitness qualities required of those seeking to be afforded the highest position of trust and confidence recognized by our system of law."

There's a book coming out in Sept. by Wendy Murphy JD that will hopefully clear up a lot of the defenses side stepping.
It's called Casey Anthony: What really happened to Caylee and why the truth matters. (Muse House Press Sept. 2011)
