When She Died

Amy Winehouse
's family claims toxicology tests prove Amy was not on any sort of illegal drugs at the time of her death ... but she had been drinking.

According to the family, officials have not determined if the booze played a role in the singer's death.

The family did not mention if  prescription drugs were detected in the toxicology report.

The statement comes as a shock to just about everyone on the planet ... since Amy struggled with a MAJOR substance abuse problem for years.

TMZ spoke with a rep from Scotland Yard ... who told us the law enforcement agency has not yet received a copy of the toxicology results from the coroner.

Winehouse died in her London apartment on July 23.

7:43 AM: A rep for the family released a statement saying, "Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death."

The statement continues, "Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."

"The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process.  They await the outcome of the inquest in October."

Okay...what OTHER drugs were in her system. You can easily OD on prescription AND over the counter meds - especially when used in conjunction with alcohol. IMHO, her family was part of her problem. She was another perfect example of a celebrity with money who was being enabled by her caregivers. Hey, Winehouse family, admit you had a problem child and spend the rest of your lives and your inheritances helping others before they die as well.

Sorry, but alcohol IS a drug. Seems like her parents are in denial.

"Illegal" drugs - that means that perhaps she was loaded with legal drugs + booze.

[illegal substances] What about legal ones? Remember MJ? His was legal and he was still a junkie! Most pill poppers get their drugs through their family doctors.

The family thought she may have died as a result of her wanting to "cold turkey" withdraw from the booze & drugs, looks like this may have been the cause...TOO sad that what may have saved her, could have ultimately killed her.

Note: no "illegal" substances, does not mean no drugs.

Considering the autopsy could not give a cause of death (ie natural causes), her death has to be related to the toxicology results. Either this report is just BS, or she had pills + alcohol, or minus the pills, just enough alcohol to kill a 27 year old, emaciated woman. RIP Amy, you had soul...

LOL just because booze is legal doesn't mean its not a killer.

You don't have to have drugs in your system to die from drug abuse. Over the years I am certain that there was a lot of damage to her organs.

What is wrong with these people. Just because it wasn't present in her system at the time of her death doesn't mean that's not what caused it. She had a LONG history of drug abuse...clearly it did permanent damage!!!

It's too soon, I know first hand that toxicology results take longer than this.
