Reese Witherspoon
was rushed to a Santa Monica hospital around 11am this morning, after a car struck the actress while she was jogging.

Law enforcement tells TMZ, Reese's injuries were very minor -- nothing life-threatening.

According to law enforcement, the driver was an 84-year-old woman. We're told Reese was crossing the street at the time of the accident ... and the driver failed to stop.

The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian and released.

Wait a second, crossing the street while jogging? One is suppose to look both ways, walk not run or jog and one is suppose not to interfere with traffic. Sorry, looks like she thought all traffic stops for her when she may not had right away. Did not say she was in a cross walk. Was she? I bet not. Bet she was in her own little world while jogging and went across the street thinking " oh they will stop for me" and wham she got hit. Sorry i believe she used poor judgement and failed to protect herself. The 86 year old may not been at fault. Jaywalking is illegal. That is crossing a street between intersections. Next time young lady, jog on the interstate and see who gets charged.

The post that states that elderly are tested yearly for visual impermanent is wrong. Shortly after we moved back home to be closer to my husband elderly parents we found out his Father, who was in his mid 80's, had a brand new license in his possession. His Father casually admitted that same day to being legally blind, this not one month after receiving the license. He admitted he could no longer read the print on an envelope that his license renewal came in! Turns out the DMV gave him the license without checking his visual acuity even though he had obvious cataracts. We asked how he got the license when you have to fill out paperwork before processing, well the nice young lady at the dmv did it for him. My husband, and he talked about how he would feel if he killed someone while driving. He then gave his car keys to my husband.. he said he figured he was still ok to drive since they gave him the license. I guess most states worry more about who the elderly will vote for, if they attempt to take away their license, more then they do who will die, or be maimed for life, if they do not.

On the plus side, it's the first hit she's had in a while.

Yes, there are some fatal accidents involving older drivers, like the tragedy at the Santa Monica Farmers Market several years ago, but if you look at all the news stories involving a traffic fatality, the majority involve young people driving too fast, recklessly, or while drunk. For the most part, older drivers drive so slowly that their accidents usually aren't fatal. If that were a younger driver rolling through a stop sign, Reese would probably be seriously injured or dead.

It's not 84 y/o's that should be banned from driving. It's women drivers. In all seriousness, anyone who gets in an accident and is cited should be required to go get a recertification within 30 days.

My doctor wa***** and killed while riding his bike on a very wide street and he was in a wide bike lane. No visual obstructions, not near a corner, right out in the open. And he had a helmet on.

Here's the clencher: the driver was 83 or 84 and her doctor told her a couple days before she shouldn't drive because of bad eyesight.

the pedestrian ALWAYS has the right of way, at least where I live.. and it's exactly because they will get hurt before the driver or passengers of a car will! I don't think licenses should be taken away at some arbitrary age, but I do believe that every 5-10 years people should have mandatory testing before they can get their license renewed!

84? Please hang it up. You've add nearly 70 years of good life driving around. I agree with the comment from Rose. Most people that age don't know what happening around them and driving should not be a priority in their lives. Take a walk and take breath and a cup of coffee at the corner Starbucks.

I really don't think an 84 year old should be driving, seriously there was that old woman who was driving the wrong way on the highway and this 70 year old lady who backed her car up into a girl so the girl was stuck between the car and a pole and her leg had to be amputated and the girl was only in high school :/
