Jewish Orgs. to Warner Bros.

BOOT Mel Gibson

from Maccabee Movie

Two powerful Jewish organizations are lashing out against the decision to hire Mel Gibson to produce a movie about biblical Jewish hero Judah Maccabee ... TMZ has learned.

The Anti-Defamation League has released a statement -- demanding Warner Bros. pull Gibson off the flick immediately ... saying, "As a hero of the Jewish people and a universal hero in the struggle for religious liberty, Judah Maccabee deserves better."

The statement adds, "It would be a travesty to have the story of the Maccabees told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views."

TMZ also spoke with Rabbi Marvin Hier -- founder and Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center -- who tells us putting Mel Gibson work on a movie about a Jewish hero is "like having a white supremacist portray Martin Luther King Jr."

FYI -- Judah is a central figure in the story of Hanukkah ... as the brave warrior who drove enemies of Judaism out of Jerusalem.

So, let me see if I get this correct, because he made slurs about jewish people a couple years ago, he is band forever. But then, you are acting like Hitler, selected acceptance of who you will let live their lives, you have never said bad things about another race, creed or religion??? Glass house dwelers need the same sensitive training, tolerance than Mel. What he said was bad, but by your actions you are far worse. Shame on you, why not tatoo him??? like my family was... Stop the hate, train people with kindness, not teach them that what they think is true??? Stop it now.

Where did it say he was "cast" in the flick? He's producing and possibly directing as far as as I know. Did I miss the news about the casting? As for the story being "told," the SCREENWRITER does that. These organizations need to take a long walk off a short plank and shut the hell up!!

Those money grubbing jews, they probably want a jewish director to direct the movie so a jew can make the money instead of a catholic, that is how they operate in every aspect of their business dealings! This people are bred to make money since the day they were born$$$$$$$ They speak of being tolerant and then they blacklist people just like the germans during WWIIll, Mel is only attempting to redeem himself and move on with his career and they just wont let it go! The past is the past! live and let live!

@ badmotherhugger --

Mr. Gibson might be a little past the 'conquering hero' (a la Pitt), but he would certainly be cool as Matthias (father of Judah).

Forgive me all, I have just been so pumped up listening to the Handel Oratorio that I am just thrilled at the epic possibilities.

Rogue Warrior

Mel -- who famously directed the arguably anti-Jewish "Passion of the Christ" in 2004 -- has signed on with Warner Bros., which won out over several other studios that wanted the project.

Nierob says Gibson has been working on the Maccabee project for a decade, but now it's about to become real.

Looks like Mel's been in the drivers seat all along so they should STFU it it's to be done at all!

Os, Hollywood has no problem with pedos like Polanski or people in the ME who want to blow Israel off the map, yet they always present them in a positive light, but go back over 60 years ago to keep putting Germans in a bad light with the over 1000 Nazi movies they've made. It's just stupid and hypocritical all the way around. If you don't like his movies, don'*****ch them.

anyone who thinks Gibson is not anti-semite is naive or poorly informed.
He grew up in an anti-semite house where his father taught that the holocaust never happened.
Did you ever hear the expression " en vino veritas", when you drink you tell how you really feel.
And believe me, passion of the christ was really anti-semitic.

Wake up people. like someone said, who would want the Klan to do a bio of the great MLK?

JEWS: You want acceptance, love and tolerance for your people but yet you practice such monumental UNFORGIVENESS?! Now is your chance to prove anti-Semites wrong. Your collective action in this matter is utterly nauseating and, frankly, embarassing me, and I'm not even Jewish. AWFUL hypocrisy. And HORRIBLE PR move!

Warner Bros. thinking it is a good idea to have Mel Gibson to have anything to do with a Jewish history film, considering what he told those officers, when he was arrested for his DWI, has lost all focus of their customer's needs and wants.

Just wondering --

Why would these 'powerful' Jewish organizations want to suppress such an historical epic? Were they protesting 'The Ten Commandments' and other biblical epics?

Just makes no sense to me.

If anyone was a true Christian, they would all know that "GOD" is a forgiving god and that he has already forgiven Mel Gibson for the things he has said and done so why can't other people forgive him. Mel has done excellent work in the past and will continue to do excellent work in the future.

Given his history of anti-semitic rants, well, his over all history toward women and minorities, this man making a movie about a Jewish man would be like the KKK producing a tribute movie about Martin Luther King.
