Natalee Holloway's Father

Declare My Daughter DEAD

9/14/2011 5:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Natalee Holloway's father is looking for some closure in the case of his missing daughter -- asking an Alabama court to declare her dead once and for all ... over SIX YEARS after she disappeared.

Dave Holloway filed the petition back in June for presumption of death -- a legal declaration that a person is deceased in the absence of hard evidence ... provided the person has been missing for five or more years.

In the petition, obtained by TMZ, Dave rehashes the entire heartbreaking case -- beginning with his daughter going missing in Aruba back in 2005 during a high school graduation trip.

Despite an "exhaustive investigation," Dave claims he is no closer to finding his daughter after all this time and he's ready to call it quits -- adding, "It is my firm, however painful, belief that my daughter Natalee is deceased, and not a runaway."

But it's all still up in the air, pending a hearing later this month to decide whether Dave's petition will be granted ... but it seems like a sure thing.

After six years it's obvious she's dead. I feel so sorry for the parents. They will never get the chance to bury their daughter which would give them closure they need.

Hey, Who lets a high schooler go to Aruba with little or no supervision? Sorry she is dead, but maybe if you put a little more thought into it, she would still be here.

But Natalee's mother says: "Give me lots of face-time".

If I recall correctly, it takes seven years for someone to legally be declared dead in the absence of a body. Why not wait the year unless there's some other reason to rush the process? Cashing in on a life insurance policy sounds like the only logical motivation for this.

Getting a signed and stamped piece of paper is not going to give him any closure.

We know who killed her and he even confessed in a car tap. Why is he still not charged with her murder?

EFF HIM!!!! There is NO FORENSIC PROOF! It was good enough for Casey Anthony, and IT IS GOOD ENOUGH HERE!!! Until a BODY is found, there is NO REAL PROOF! Money grabbing family!

Wow I see all the *******s are out today. Let's hope this doesn't happen to your child one day. If they do have a life insurance policy (which I doubt because she was only 18) it's their money. How long do they have to wait for THEIR money when the whole world knows she's dead? God Bless these people. I can't imagine what it's like to have a child go missing and never finding out the whole truth about how she died and where she is.

I get that there's no proof she's alive, but there's also no proof she's dead. Hence, why not keep hope alive? And if he really believes she's dead, why does he need a court to declare her dead?

Vandersloot said something interesting on a show. He said that he sold her into sex slavery. He travels around the world in places with the worse human trafficking rates and foreign tourist are often times targets.
