John Travolta

Classic Benz ... JACKED

9/19/2011 7:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0919_travolta_car_Flynet_EXJohn Travolta's vintage sports car was stolen right out from under his nose yesterday in Santa Monica ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us Travolta had parked his 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL on the street -- just a couple blocks from a Jaguar dealer.

We're told John was only in the dealership for about 10 minutes -- and when he returned ... his whip had vanished.

John went back to the Jag dealer and waited for police to show up to take a report. We're told there are no witnesses. Travolta's rep hasn't gotten back to us yet.

By the way ... that Benz can sell for as much as $100,000.

And you thought your weekend sucked.

He tried to buy my aunt's 280SL in Sherman Oaks about 30 years ago. Travolta followed her and asked if she would sell him her car. She loved it and said no.

That car in excellent restored condition sells for 35K to 55K

If the 280 SL is a manual transmission, it is worth a lot more than automatic - less produced. If the paint and interior is original, has low miles, and has won showcases or car shows it could be worth 100K.

en Todo Momento!!

probably some old lady with dementia, who thinks it's still the 1970's and thinks she's still in her roaring 20's. i'd check the local senior citizens home parking lot, if i were travolta. she probably forgot she took it by now.

Okay, here we go again. According to John Travolta, being quoted in news reports in the L.A. Times, his car was stolen while he was visiting a Jaguar dealership in Santa Monica.

Here's the background. The car was a classic Mercedes, a 1970 280SL, which Travolta parked in the 1400 block of Berkeley Street in S.M., which is a residential area. Then he walked to the Jaguar dealership, which is on Olympic Boulevard. This was yesterday, 9/18, a pleasant Sunday afternoon. He returned to the parking space at 3:46 p.m. To find the car missing. Why didn't Travolta park at the dealership? Well, you'll have to ask him that.

If you do a Google Maps search of 1400 Berkeley Street, and then backtrack to Olympic Blvd. to the south, you'll see that it's a very, very, very long walk to the dealership, which is in a business area of Olympic. You'll also see that the area on Berkeley closest to the dealership is not residential, but rather is business and light industrial.

The walk from the 1400 block of Berkeley to Olympic meant that Travolta walked long blocks from between Santa Monica Blvd. and Broadway, and then the long blocks to Colorado Ave., Pennsylvania Ave., Nebraska Ave., and still had a ways to go before Olympic.

Are we to believe a Jaguar dealership on Olympic has no parking spaces or wouldn't accommodate Travolta's classic sports car?

This all begs the question, Mr. Travolta, what were you doing in a residential building in the 1400 block? After all, it's your story that you parked many blocks away from your destination because that was the only space you could find.

I'm guessing John was paying a visit to a special friend.

Travolta must have been wigged out.

(Definition of "wigged out": Freaking out, going crazy, out of control.)

Even Travolta must have not felt gay when he found his Benz stolen.

Whoever wrote this article is making up the details. How can you shop in closed Jaguar store (store was closed on Sunday)? Maybe window shopping...:-)

The car was broken into by someone who works for the dearler he went to in order to try to get Travi to buy a car.

Sometimes it really pays to use those parking garages, valet parking would have been the smartest (since the valet company takes over liability care/security of a vehicle). Hope John had lowjack service on a classic worth over 100K. Not smart parking that on the street.
