'Blues Brothers' Actor

Charles Napier -- Dead at 75

10/6/2011 2:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Charles Napier
Charles Napier -- who played bad ass Tucker McElroy in "The Blues Brothers" -- died yesterday ... one day after he collapsed at his California home.

Napier starred in a TON of Hollywood classics, including "Rambo: First Blood II" and "Philadelphia" ... also voiced Dr. Speltz on a recent episode of the F/X show "Archer."

It's unclear what caused Napier to collapse -- but he was reportedly hospitalized for blood clots just last year.

Napier was 75.

I seem to remember "seeing" him in a movie my then fiance took me to see ... I don't remember the title but thought it was something like "Trader Horn*."

In the episode "Fire" in the 3rd season of The A-Team, Napier played Col. Briggs, the Army's new head of A-team hunting, replacing the iconic Col. Decker played by Lance Le Gault. Hannibal Smith encounters Napier and asks if Decker has been sent to a weather station north of the Arctic Circle, a reference to Le Gault's threat to John Larroquette in "Stripes" (You screw this up, Stillman... and I'll have you assigned to a weather station above the Arctic Circle! You got that? ).

I chuckle every time I think of this.

Charles Napier was also seen in Russ Meyer movies! That's where I saw him first. He's Borgnine's equal, or better... but I have never heard anyone talk about him that much.
