ESPN to Hank Williams:

YOU'RE FIRED

10/6/2011 7:38 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Hank Williams
The Monday Night party is over for Hank Williams ... ESPN has just fired the singer, days after he compared President Obama to Hitler.

ESPN had already pulled the song from Monday's game while they mulled Williams' fate -- but now, it's permanent.

ESPN released a statement, saying, "We appreciate his contributions over the past years.  The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue."

As we previously reported, Williams went on Fox News earlier this week, and referred to Obama and Joe Biden as "the enemy."

He later called his comments "dumb" -- but never really apologized for saying them.

This is all about limiting Free Speech. After all, censorship is everywhere. The gov’t (and their big business cronies) censor free speech, shut down dissent and ban the book “America Deceived II”. Free speech for all.
Last link (before Google Books bans it also]:

Why is everyone crying "Freedom of Speech". Did he get into legal trouble for what he said? No. When you're hired by a company everything you do represents that brand, especially a company as big as ESPN. ESPN would potentially lose more from investors if they kept him around, than they would lose if they fired him. So it just makes sense business wise.

He deserves the right to speek what he believes, on the job or not, you shouldn't be scared either way. Unless it was in his contract of some sort, he shouldn't have been fired. Especially for speeking his mind, it's his right.....

Only FOX and friends would choose to have this idiot on their show to inquire his political views. Hank has the credibility of a cartoon charactor! Thats like asking Elmer Fudd for his political views. Again, Tis Bozo is entitled to say whatever he wants, but he is only proving what a biggoted idiot he is. ESPN made a smart business move....I would like to see this biggot go into any NFL locker room and spout off hi*****e.

I believe in freedom of speech this is America, I also believe that ESPN has the freedom to run their business as they please. I'm sure Hank Williams will recover.

How many of you immediately thought "Wow, I'm no*****ching ESPN again" after hearing Hank Williams Jr. say that? How many people even associate Hank Williams Jr. with ESPN? Maybe a little with Monday Night Football, but it's not like he's a commentator on there. He sang the opening song, probably half the people don't even know that is him singing. It really is out of line for ESPN to take it this far. Maybe a reprimand was warrented, but not a firing.
