Dr. Conrad Murray

The Interview that Sunk Him

10/13/2011 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Dr. Conrad Murray
Dr. Conrad Murray
would NOT be on trial today for Michael Jackson's death ... had he politely declined to speak with cops 2 days after MJ passed ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Sources directly connected with the decision to prosecute Murray tell TMZ ... Murray's 2-hour interview with LAPD detectives at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey gave prosecutors the ammo to charge the doc.

Our sources all say, prosecutors almost declined to file the case, but the police interview made all the difference.

We're told ... police and prosecutors believe they never would have been able to prove Dr. Murray administered Propofol to Jackson almost every day for 2 months, were it not for Murray volunteering the info.  The case hinges on Murray's alleged reckless medical treatment, and prosecutors believe administering the drug in a home setting for that period of time proves recklessness.

And, our law enforcement sources say, cops could never have proven that Murray pumped a total of 5 gallons of Propofol through MJ's system were it not for the interview.

But there's something even more fundamental.  We're told it became apparent to detectives shortly after Murray's interview that the doctor wasn't telling the whole truth.  As one law enforcement source put it, "He told the truth 70% of the time during the interview, and lied 30% of the time.  And the lies created the suspicion that led to the investigation that led to charges being filed."

The real question -- why did Murray volunteer to speak with cops and spill his guts?  As one source put it, "Murray and his lawyer never thought he'd be charged with a crime.  He was worried about the bad P.R. and felt he could put a lid on it."  And another source added, "smart people who are arrogant think they can talk to cops and make a problem go away, but it doesn't work that way."

There's no proof Dr. Conrad Murray was out of the room more than two minutes. What a waste of time and money the trial is. Michael Jackson was a junkie, and took more drugs in a day that would stone 5 elephants. And if he hated his childhood so much he would have left the entertainment industry. All the excuses for this man is bunk. And if they're going to put Murray on trial, put all the other doctors on trial and revoke their licenses for catering to Michael Jackson's addiction for narcotics for decades.

Michael is neither a junkie or an idiot like the press seems to want him to be so badly. *Going back to watching Ru Paul and then some Dancing with the Stars*

5 gallons of Propofol? You'd kill anybody pumping that much liquid in to a person considering the fact that the human body only holds 1.5 gallons of blood. Check your numbers, TMZ.

Rogue Warrior

It's painfully obvious there are a lot of naive MJ fans who wear their white glove on their right hand to match their earring on the same side. Here's a newsflash for y'all, he didn't care what he was doing to himself because he was an addict and they don't think about long term consequences when they're using. They only think about getting high, or feeling "right", and getting their next fix to get high all over again. Long term consequences aren't thought about until they have a period of being clean behind them.

Beat IT!!

Why is everyone making such a big deal about a "guy" who touched boys? If John Wayne Gasy put out one good album 30 years ago he would be deemed a hero. You people are monsters for crying over a 50 year old with no self control.

Thanks Mark! I question the mean age of the rabid fans who post here. They seem to be focusing on a death, rather than WHO died! He was thought of by America as a FREAK SHOW and died as such. Yes, he made famous music, but the dude who played with little boys and got away with it is what EVERYONE remembers. Furthermore, WHO talks like MJ did and let's exclude the TS community.

I work for a radio station so it's my job to post, however I at least keep it real 24/7.

I have always felt this is a major flaw in our criminal justice system. If the police arrest you then you have the right to remain silent. If they question you without placing you under arrest then they can use what you say against you then arrest you. The best thing to do is say nothing! Make them prove their case on their own.

Murray would still be on trial even if he had not talked to the police. The cornor's report says that MJ died from propofol intoxication. There are witnesses to the fact that Murray was "treating" MJ when he died. With that info alone, the cops have the right to get search warrants, which would lead to them finding out that Murray purchased gallons of propofol.

The bottom line is, no matter how long Murray gave MJ the propofol -- for 1 night, or for 2 months, or how much he gave, it should not have been given without the proper monitoring and resuscitation equipment being present, which amounts to negligent homocide. There is absolutely no way around that fact. Besides, I believe Murray spent time trying to CYA instead of trying save MJ.

Dr. Conrad Murray is a sociopath and that is why he lies so much. I wish Michael Jackson had never crossed paths with him.
