Dr. Conrad Murray

The Interview that Sunk Him

10/13/2011 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Dr. Conrad Murray
Dr. Conrad Murray
would NOT be on trial today for Michael Jackson's death ... had he politely declined to speak with cops 2 days after MJ passed ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Sources directly connected with the decision to prosecute Murray tell TMZ ... Murray's 2-hour interview with LAPD detectives at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey gave prosecutors the ammo to charge the doc.

Our sources all say, prosecutors almost declined to file the case, but the police interview made all the difference.

We're told ... police and prosecutors believe they never would have been able to prove Dr. Murray administered Propofol to Jackson almost every day for 2 months, were it not for Murray volunteering the info.  The case hinges on Murray's alleged reckless medical treatment, and prosecutors believe administering the drug in a home setting for that period of time proves recklessness.

And, our law enforcement sources say, cops could never have proven that Murray pumped a total of 5 gallons of Propofol through MJ's system were it not for the interview.

But there's something even more fundamental.  We're told it became apparent to detectives shortly after Murray's interview that the doctor wasn't telling the whole truth.  As one law enforcement source put it, "He told the truth 70% of the time during the interview, and lied 30% of the time.  And the lies created the suspicion that led to the investigation that led to charges being filed."

The real question -- why did Murray volunteer to speak with cops and spill his guts?  As one source put it, "Murray and his lawyer never thought he'd be charged with a crime.  He was worried about the bad P.R. and felt he could put a lid on it."  And another source added, "smart people who are arrogant think they can talk to cops and make a problem go away, but it doesn't work that way."

wow

Murray lied about details in this interview. I don't believe he ever felt a pulse. I always thought he found MJ dead and then he panicked and tried to cover his tracks.

Because considering he was the rabid fans second coming of Jesus, I thought all your prayers would have resurrected him by now.

The police found the propofol. They would have found the pharmacy and the shipments. They would know Murray had only Michael for a patient and that he came almost every night. There was an IV stand and oxygen tanks. What the hell else would Murray have used the propofol for? He could well have been charged without the voluntary police interview

it is disturbing that they wouldn't have pushed forward without the interview. Whether propofol was administered one time or a hundred times it shouldn't matter. Thats like saying well you only stabbed the guy last night so you are off the hook, if you had stabbed him repeatedly in the past we would have cause to book you. What he did was f*cking stupid no matter how you look at it. This interview just outlined how much of a liar the guy is.

Michael Jackson is a sociopath and that is why he lies so much. I wish Conrad Murray had never crossed paths with him.

I have been faithfully following this story for the past 2 years, and to me, it comes down to this: Murray should never have put Michael to sleep using Propofol, and in Murray's care, Michael died under Propofol. A good doctor would have monitored his patient better and been there at the moment Michael stopped breathing. He should have known how to properly save Michael, and had all the equipment necessary to do this. He should have known the house address by heart, realizing that the dangerous drug he was administering could require EMT services at any point throughout any of those 60 or so nights. I think the 5 failures to provide proper care, as outlined by the sleep specialist, mean that Murray decided he would rather throw caution to the wind in order to make a superstar happy with him and collect his $150 000 per month, than do the right thing. He was an incompetent doctor, and he allowed himself to put his patient on death's door simply because he was hungry for the benefits of a pleased Michael Jackson.
I know that it can be argued that another doctor would have come along anyways, but it was Murray who administered, and it was Murray whose incompetency/careless behavior resulted in Michael's death.
I would also like to point out that one should not blame the addict. Yes, Michael was wealthy and famous, which made it easy for him to buy off doctors, but he wasn't thinking clearly. His brain was addicted, and he would do anything to feed what his body craved. There shouldn't have been a doctor out there who would have given him what he demanded. If all doctors had integrity and acted in the best interests of their patients, we wouldn't have this problem.
That is my view!

Yeah right! The Coroner ruled Michael's death a homicide. Michael's family had a separate autopsy performed and went public that michael was murdered before the official coroner's report was even released. Bump the police. Even after michael's death was ruled a homicide, murray was NOT placed under arrest. Therefore the LAPD can go somewhere and shut the freak up! THe LAPD is no friend of Michael Jackson,,,,,never in life and less in death.....

The results of the Coroner led to charges being filed. Michael's death was ruled a homicide....a murder was committed.

After a two day hiatus, Murray lied to the police and they thanked him for stopping by..............Other than provide a police escort in and out of court, the LAPD has not done anything........Murray cleaned the crime scene: no charges

The security team are a bunch of convoluted backstabbing birdbrains:fact

The keystone cops of the LAPD did not recover any footage...oh I forgot it was lost to the ages:Liars

Thank goodness there was enough evidence in Michael's body to prove he was murdered.........Michael is going to get them all..........from the grave........
