Ex-NASCAR Driver

Cops Seize Roughly 40 Firearms

11/2/2011 9:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield had enough firepower inside of his home to equip a small army ... law enforcement tells TMZ.

We spoke with Captain Joel Fish of the Catawba County Sheriff's Dept. who tells us cops seized approximately 40 firearms during a search of Mayfield's North Carolina home last night.

Captain Fish says most of the guns were rifles and shotguns ... with a few handguns.

We're told the guns were seized so officials could determine if the weapons belong to Mayfield .... and if so, if they are properly registered.

As we previously reported, cops had searched the home on a warrant after receiving a tip about stolen property inside Mayfield's pad.

Captain Fish says cops seized all sorts of items they believe to have been stolen -- including Red Bull Racing gear, commercial sound equipment and industrial machinery. Cops also claim they found 1.5 grams of methamphetamine inside the house.

Mayfield was arrested for felony possession of meth. He was released after posting $3,000 bond.

Captain Fish tells us cops are still investigating the matter.

After a quick look at Catawba County North Carolina's webpage - http://www.co.catawba.nc.us/misc/dirofsvc/handguns.asp - you'll NOT find any reference to a gun registry. Now why would a credible journalist not know that?

Poor Kalifornians! There is no "Gun Registry" in the Free states! Typical freshman outline journalism techniques! The way these so called writers impose their own beliefs as if it were law! Truly ridiculous! Stumbled upon this site and laughed. Tell Harvey this for me? Jon Lovitz!

Geeze get The #u#ck off his back. While cir****tances clearly paint Jeremy as an addict and apparently a gun nut. This country was built on Hard Drugs and Stocks of Gun Power.
Remember that in the real world outside the bubble of NA/AA meetings and government 'War on Drugs' fallacies there exists a profound alternate reality of Drug Use where more then a few american's athletes, politicians, Billionaires manage to extract positive and material gains through use of "illicit substances" There is a difference between use and abuse. This applies to obese food addicts to the collegiate Phd who might use amphetamines to achieve a level of comprehension otherwise unnatainable.
Hugh Hefner did his best work for playboy during speed fueled benders and he looks none the worse for wear. Andre Aggassi won a grand slam on meth. Until recenetly Pro Baseball had a look the other way policy on amphetamines. Give me a break haters.
I honestly cant stand nascar but even worse, i cant stand judgemental americans. Lets all face it, in America , at every mountaintop of success, those looking down from the mountain tops of greatness, 8 of 10 have lied and cheated to get there. Its the USA way.

Imagine our gun nuts in up here in Canada are trying to copy the US.

You don't need to register firearms in the Carolinas so someone is full of it. I'm not buying the stolen goods story...you ust don't steal an 800 pound lathe and a 200 pound welder. Smells like a setup on the stolen property aspect.

pahlease... 40 firearms isn't that big of a deal, especailly considering there mostly rifles. There hunting guns... he probably hunts, so what... I live up in Canada and the media does the same thing here, "found however much drugs, and firearms in the house" and it makes it sounds worse then it is. The drugs bad... the fact that he had meth in his house, I think is awful, I think Meth is a horrible drug that could really screw someone up, and they can throw the book at him for that, and I wouldn't say a word, but the fact that he had 40 firearms, mostly hunting rifles and shotguns just isn't that big of a deal, and no where near as bad as its made out to sound.
