Dead at 92

11/5/2011 5:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

CBS icon Andy Rooney -- who was with the network for nearly 60 years -- died yesterday ... reps at CBS confirm.

Rooney had been hospitalized last month for "serious complications" following minor surgery.

Details of Rooney's condition had not been released.

"60 Minutes" executive producer Jeff Fager released a statement saying, "It's a sad day for everybody here at CBS News ... it's hard to imagine not having Andy around. He loved his life and he lived it on his own terms. We will miss him very much."

Rooney last appeared on "60 Minutes" on October 2 -- in which he marveled at the weight of his new laptop computer ... saying, "It weights less than 3 pounds ... I lose that much getting mad waiting to get on the plane through security at the airport."

He was 92.

Good, bout time that old piece of garbage died. After what he said about Kurt Cobain's suicide, this piece of trash deserves nothing but the spit of society.

@26 Kyle It must be horrible being so bitter and coming from such a Shallow Gene Pool. Mr., Rooney had more class and insight then you and your entire family could ever imagine

JJ Mr. Rooney should have gotten a special award for what he said about Kurt Cobain. Anyone taht had a successful career and all of the fame that decided to eat a shotgun and leave his child without a father had to be insane. And anyone that would say what you said about Mr. Rooney SHOULD eat a shotgun

R.I.P., Andy. You were a bitter little curmudgeon (or at least that was the persona you crafted), but perhaps that was what endeared you to people. I'm sure wherever you are now, you are complaining about the logistical, aesthetic and the logical fallacies you have found to be existing there.

"May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back."

Sad to report the passing of commentator & all around grumpy (but great) guy, Andy Rooney.

Since hospital records are pretty hard to access, I guess we will never know if Andy's minor surgery was performed under general anesthesia &, if so, was there a brain monitor or not.

Based on the 25% usage of brain monitors in US hospitals, it is a statistical probability that Andy did not receive the benefit of a brain monitor &, hence, received too much anesthesia for his brain's requirement.

Also, those who might be inclined are invited to sign my petition on change.org:

Thank you for your interest & continued support.

The best part of 60 Minutes was always Andy's comments! It was sad to see him leave the show. But this is heartbreaking! You will be missed forever, Andy. Rest in peace. Bonnie
