Penn State Scandal

Giving Mike McQueary a Pass?!

11/10/2011 12:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

111011_tmzlive

Penn State fires Joe Paterno, but says it's cool for Mike McQueary to coach this weekend? The same McQueary who, according to testimony, witnessed Jerry Sandusky's alleged rape of a young boy.

Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and a former PSU player -- joined us to rip his alma mater's handling of the scandal. Plus, student body prez TJ Bard tries to explain why some students are on the fence about an issue that's so black and white.

Outrage and frustration -- two things you'll feel after today's episode. We did.

TMZLive-Download-Podcast-Graphic

(3:01) PSU fires Paterno, but not McQueary -- who witnessed a boy being raped ... and then ran away like a coward.
(6:40) Harvey reads the shocking grand jury testimony about what McQueary claims to have witnessed.
(10:25) PSU student body president TJ Bard is on the phone. He says if "anyone has aided in the continued abuse of a child" doesn't belong at the school -- but refuses to say McQueary should be fired.
(12:45) Why won't Bard stand up against McQueary?
(15:00) How can the students honor the victims ... if they let McQueary at the game?
(17:10) Shocking -- there's no line of communication between the university and Bard.
(23:50) Another student calls in -- and won't take a hard stand on the issue. So frustrating.
(42:40) Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and former PSU football player -- calls in ... and FINALLY ... someone takes a serious stand against the school.

McQueary is a troll like no other. He should have grabbed that poor boy and ran. He should fire himself.

McQueary was 28 years old at the time. And while I agree he was a victim of sorts, as well, he called his father to confer, and then waited until the next morning to go to Paterno's house, according to the Grand Jury Report.

NO EXCUSE. Is this the kind of person you want guiding your children through life? You call 911, rescue the child, DO THE RIGHT THING.

This was a 10 year old boy. A little 3rd or 4th grader. McQueary saw him, and he saw McQueary. That boy saw McQueary walk away and not come back, and no one that night, or the next day, or the days and weeks after that ever came to help him or comfort him. That little boy never got to hear someone say "Are you okay? You didn't deserve that. You are safe. I will never let that man near you again."

WHERE'S THE GRAY AREA IN THAT?

Is there some obscure reason, that I am missing, that Sandusky and his family (his wife called one of the victims and this also happened in their house!!!!!)are not in the press...why Joe Pa? I have seen no headlines about Sandusky in the press in Germany(where I live) but Joe Pa is in the headlines!

McQueary should have tried to stop the rape; failing that, he should have called the police ASAP [and not the head coach]. McQueary also failed to follow through. Not to let the others off the hook, but McQueary should be banned from any position in education for at least five years.

Gee, all USC did was some silly recruiting violations to get banned from bowl play.

Penn State is into child rape for decades and are heroes.

MCQUEARY needs to go, not tomorrow, next week or next month.
His brainwashed "thinking" from PENN STATE is so void of
common sense, values and morals. When the time came to step up...he didn't save that boy from THE MONSTER.
------------------------------------------------------------PATERNO can spit out values and morals until Kingdom comes, but when that young boy was being raped why didn't PATERNO step up and report the perverted criminal behavior?
------------------------------------------------------------
PENN STATE'S Culture of Rape for young boys needs to GO...ALL OF THEM.....NOW! Start FRESH.
------------------------------------------------------------
The cries you hear are young baby boys being born. Don't let them get raped by powerful and falsely respected men
with DIRTY MINDS, HEARTS and SOULS.
------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't that Board of Trustees look like priests from the Catholic Church?....deny...deny....don't answer questions..shake your nodding heads....mightier than the
reporters....smirk-faced "above it all" attitudes.

I'm Happy that he is gone. What if the staff/Students take this to court but can they? Will he be able to be at this weekends games? How is going to couch them this weekend

Graduate assistants are not trained to intervene and stop senior coaches who rape children, and it's wrong to blame the one person who actually did do something anyway. The incident occurred before the Catholic church abuse scandals were in the media, so regular people weren't highly aware of the problem. And seeing a child raped can be a traumatizing and horrifying thing too. The graduate assistant acted responsibly-- he called his dad who said to report it immediately to Paterno, which was done.

Child abuse is unlike first degree murder in that you do have to report child abuse that you witness while you do not have to report a first degree murder to which you are the sole witness.

I feel like I'm in some bizarro world. This man personally witnessed a crime against a child and did nothing. Forget losing his job. How is he not facing criminal charges? I'm no criminologist, but isn't this abetting a crime or obstructing justice or something?

This is the most disgusting story TMZ has ever written about. The sheet fact that he did nothing makes him an accessory to the crime. How could a human being with any iota of decency stand by and let that happen? How would he like it if that was his child? Furthermore, the fact that this guy is allowed to stay on with the team just illustrates the priorities of sports teams and their administration. Very sad state of affairs.

HARVEY AND CHARLES,

CAN YOU DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND NOT SPEND 45 MINUTES ON THE PENN STATE FIASCO AGAIN? AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES IT BECOME YOU TALKING IN CIRCLES WITH CALLERS. THERE'S OTHER STUFF TO COVER, TOO.
