Penn State Scandal

Giving Mike McQueary a Pass?!

11/10/2011 12:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Penn State fires Joe Paterno, but says it's cool for Mike McQueary to coach this weekend? The same McQueary who, according to testimony, witnessed Jerry Sandusky's alleged rape of a young boy.

Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and a former PSU player -- joined us to rip his alma mater's handling of the scandal. Plus, student body prez TJ Bard tries to explain why some students are on the fence about an issue that's so black and white.

Outrage and frustration -- two things you'll feel after today's episode. We did.

(3:01) PSU fires Paterno, but not McQueary -- who witnessed a boy being raped ... and then ran away like a coward.
(6:40) Harvey reads the shocking grand jury testimony about what McQueary claims to have witnessed.
(10:25) PSU student body president TJ Bard is on the phone. He says if "anyone has aided in the continued abuse of a child" doesn't belong at the school -- but refuses to say McQueary should be fired.
(12:45) Why won't Bard stand up against McQueary?
(15:00) How can the students honor the victims ... if they let McQueary at the game?
(17:10) Shocking -- there's no line of communication between the university and Bard.
(23:50) Another student calls in -- and won't take a hard stand on the issue. So frustrating.
(42:40) Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and former PSU football player -- calls in ... and FINALLY ... someone takes a serious stand against the school.

They should fire McQueary immediately, and shut down the football program for the rest of the year.

He knew about this and kept his mouth shut all this time?......He's as guilty as they all are!

As a Penn State grad ('90), I never felt the Board of Trustees and Administration had the interest of the students in mind. Paterno was fired because they've wanted to get rid of him for years. Tim Curley apparently remains on the payroll in spite of his indictment. Pres Spanier is allowed to resign. I can't explain why Mike Mcqueary gets special treatment. If one gets fired, they all should be fired. And I believe at some point over the years, someone on the Board knew as well.

This situation demonstrates a severe lack of moral compass is our society in general. McQuery should be fired as well for not calling the police. Obviously, he was worried about losing his job. Same with Paterno. There is no doubt that politics plays a tremendously powerful role on college campuses. The powers that be can be intimidating . . . however, man up and do the right thing!

"The board of trustees got it wrong. They should have consulted the victims before making a decision on Mr. Paterno," Ben Andreozzi (an attorney advising the victims(said. "They should have considered these victims watch TV and are aware of the students' reaction and may not want to be associated with the downfall of Mr. Paterno. The school instead elected to do what it felt was in its own best interest at the time. Isn’t that what put the school in this position in the first place?"

Throwback kid

Fire everyone and hire Al Sharpton to coach the team the rest of the season. My only concern is Sharpton may not know enough about special teams

I’m appauled

Question: Is this a Clery Act Violation?

Everyone who knew about the sexual abuse and didn't follow thru to stop it should all be prosecuted as an accessories to a felony just as an accessory to a felony murder. Question – with sexual abuse is there a murder of a psyche.

The students and others joining in at Penn State are reacting on emotion and personality popularity. Or, they just want an excuse to party their way. These students and others joining in, are not rationally thinking thru what actually happened as witnessed first hand - sexual abuse of children.

I wonder how these students would feel if it was their son or daughter or family member who was sexually abused!!!!!!!

In speaking with several survivors of sexual abuse, they tell me the memories never go away, nor does the anger and frustration and lack of trust.

I am student here and when I first heard about this scandlal, I Knew that they all had to go even Joe Pa just because his a national figure does not mean he did the right thing, if this happened to a Math teacher that had been here as long as joe pa has, that person would have been fired on the spot

PSU students: We're going to have a vigil, we are all going to wear blue, we support the victims. . .but we're still going to go to the game on Saturday!

I can't believe they're continuing with this season. PSU needs to forfeit all the remaining games, donate all the money to the victims, clean house, and shut the football program down for two years.

This is outrageous!
