111811_davern_videoThe captain of the boat where Natalie Wood spent the last moments of her life was extremely drunk during the critical moments before and after she went missing ... this according to the Captain himself.

Capt. Dennis Davern told us on TMZ Live ... he drank a lot of scotch and wine in the hours leading up to Natalie's disappearance. What's more ... Davern says Robert Wagner plied him with liquor in the hours after she vanished.  In spite of the heavy drinking, Davern says his memory of the evening is clear.

Take a listen as Davern explains the fighting, the sounds and what Wagner refused to do after Natalie disappeared.

This guy has lost his captain's license twice; once for being drunk and once for running a client's boast aground. He is obviously in it for the money

Hey nof.......so anyone who actually wants proof and a court date is stupid, and you, who needs no proof, just sensationalized stories on a gosssip site is the smart one? LOL! Yeah, that makes sense. This man is trying to sell books. If he thought he could get away with telling you aliens landed and took Natalie then missed the boat on the drop off, he would. Sorry you're too stupid to see that. Now you can get back to telling everyone who disagrees with "innocent until proven guilty" how stupid they are.

Geez..come on, the captain was plastered out of his head..how could remember all of this...the entire party left the resturant drunk...taking bottles of wine and champaigne with them...and on top of it...taking qualudes...probably none of them really no what happened. She was drunk too. She probably didn't even realize she was out on the deck. The guilt lies with the captain - he never should have taken a drink/drug even with Robert Wagner insisting. He should have said NO. It is his job to ensure the safety of the passengers. This all sounds like he needs money from his book. It reaks of fish...straight out of the sea....If anyone goes to jail it should be him. Had he not been intoxicated and ON DRUGS...HE WOULD HAVE HEARD THE COMMOTION ON DECK. And what about Natalie...she was 43 years old, if she had this great fear of water...why was she going out on a boat All OF THESE YEARS...it's tragic, too bad she chose to drink and drug too much. Some of the responsibility lies with her as well.

To you losers- I can believe you say teh captain has no one but himself to blame. He did not cause Natalie's death. Wagner was obviously worried about media exposure and did not call for help or let the searchlights loo*****il later. The captain is NOT to blame for this horrible act, wagner may not have intentioanly killed Natalie, but it sounds like they physically fought and she was pushed in the water.

Shortly after her death, I was a nurse with Natalie Woods mother in her home. Lana and her daughter was there and the daughter, I have forgotten her name, was a carbon copy of Natalie when she was in Miracle on 34th street. They were a very nice family and I liked them very much. I always have thought RW was involved in killing Natalie...just a gut feeling. When he would come on TV in a commercial, I would change the channel. Could not stand to look at his face.

Have an old friend who has a boat yard in the Keys. He stated Davelyn is a drunk and in major financial trouble with is his failing boat yard in Florida. He has been trying to borrow money, no credit, etc. Plus, he is not a licensed Captain, never has been.

Witness Who Heard Natalie Wood Screaming Will Talk To DetectivesWitness Who Heard Natalie Wood Screaming Will Talk To Detectives

A woman who heard screen siren Natalie Wood yelling for help on the night she died in 1981 has told RadarOnline.com that she will cooperate with law enforcement investigators who've reopened the mysterious case three decades later.

In an exclusive interview, Marilyn Wane said: "I have not yet spoken to the police, it hasn't come up. But I'd speak to any police that came to me to ask a question, for sure."

Wane is considered a sensational new "ear-witness" in the case. She was guest on an adjacent yacht, roughly 90 feet from the Splendour, the yacht on which Wood, 43, was cruising with husband Robert Wagner and actor Christophe Walken in 1981, just hours before her Thanksgiving weekend death.

Wane said she heard, "This female voice yelling for help. 'Somebody help me, I'm drowning! Please somebody help me, I'm drowning'."

Wane never spoke to police, she admitted to RadarOnline.com from her Los Angeles home.

"I was never asked," she said, "and to be honest, I would have thought it (the case) would have been dead and buried after all this time, but I guess not.

"Everything that happened has been widely reported. So I don't know why the case been reopened, now. I am not sure why this new interest has been aroused.

"Don't we have enough current crime that we have to go back 30 years? It's kind of unusual."

Wood was presumed drowned, according to authorities. They theorized that she accidentally fell overboard when apparently trying to secure a dinghy that was banging against the side of the yacht and keeping her awake.

In a sudden twist, the captain of the boat on the night in question, Dennis Davern, has blamed Wagner for Wood's death.

When Davern was asked in a live television interview if Wagner, 81, was "responsible" for Wood's death, he said: “Yes, I would say so.”

He claimed Wagner had asked him not to take steps to find his wife.

It was a matter of, “We're not going to look too hard, we're not going to turn on the search light, we're not going to notify anybody right at the moment," Davern told NBC's Today on Friday.

Asked at a news conference on Friday if Wagner was a suspect, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s lieutenant said point blank, "No."

The actor's spokesman has questioned Davern's motives since the captain has published a book about Wood's death.

"Although no one in the Wagner family has heard from the LA County Sheriff's department about this matter, they fully support the efforts of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and trust they will evaluate whether any new information relating to the death of Natalie Wood Wagner is valid, and that it comes from a credible source or sources other than those simply trying to profit from the 30 year anniversary of her tragic death,” a statement read.
