Oscars are for movies. Loretta Swit was nominated for an Emmy for the TV show MASH.

You are mistaken about Loretta Switt being nominated for and Oscar for her work on TV's Mash. You can't be nominated for an "Oscar" for television. That would be an Emmy nomination. How can TMZ not know THAT!!!???

In today's economic climate we all need to find ways to make our money go further. I know I was concerned about my Christmas shopping this year until I discovered an amazing penny auction site online http://tinyurl.com/TopDealsOnline Penny auctions were new to me until a few weeks ago but now I am regularly saving hundreds of dollars on things like iPads, gift cards, cameras and smart phones. I even got a $200 Best Buy gift card there for $33. I did all my Christmas shopping there and I spent less and get more than ever before.....

At a American Legion conference, I talked to a former military doctor who had served in Korea. He said that the MASH TV program did not portray actual conditions in Korea up in the front lines in medical tents. The TV show is entertainment but not reality, he commented. When I was a prisoner of war in German Stalag XI-B near Hannover, 19844-45, I donated fresh blood directly from my arm into a wounded American soldier who was being operated on as he lay screaming because there was no anesthetic available. Wehad been bombed by Allied planes and the hospital shook. Railroad lines were bombed so Red Cross parcels and food could notget through so we moreor less starved on a bowl of carrot soup and small hunk of bread each day until the British Army liberated the camp on April 16, 1945. The European war ended about May 8, 1945. Another American POW later published a celebrated book about being a POW in Germany's ancient cultural city of Dresden when it was fire-bombed in 1945.

I was talking to a former medical doctor at an American Legion conference and he said that MASH did notaccurately describe the medical conditions up in front line medical tents during the Korean War. He said MASH was meant tomake people laugh but it was not accurate.

Okay, so it was an Emmy not an Oscar. Loretta was a talented actress playing a quirky role. As for the show not depicting real combat hospital conditions - thank God! Does any sane person expect that for prime time comedy fare? My Korean friends were offended by the show for the way it depicted Korean people. Still, the show was well-written and well-acted. Can you name a show that offends nobody and is still quality entertainment?
