Scottie Pippen

I'm Suing EVERYONE Who

Falsely Reported I Was Bankrupt

12/13/2011 2:28 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Scottie Pippen
Scottie Pippen
claims he's been unfairly portrayed in the media as a walking financial disaster -- and now he's suing every media outlet that reported he went bankrupt ... claiming he hasn't been worth LESS than $40,000,000 in the last 10 years.

Pippen has filed a lawsuit against TONS of online media outlets -- including CBSsports.com, CNBC.com, Arizona State University and more -- claiming they all falsely reported the former Chicago Bulls star had gone belly up.

According to the docs, filed in federal court in Illinois and obtained by TMZ ... Pippen claims, "It is a most foul libel indeed to be falsely accused of being bankrupt."

The lawsuit continues, "Scottie never filed bankruptcy and indeed has a substantial net worth, which has not been less than approximately $40,000,000 in the last ten years."

Pippen claims CNBC.com included him in an article titled, "15 Athletes Gone Bankrupt" ... and CBSsports.com posted a photo of Pippen along with a story about NBA players and bankruptcy.

As for ASU -- Pippen claims he was tagged as a person who had gone bankrupt in a law blog operated by the University.

Pippen claims each media outlet that besmirched his good name should fork over at least $1 MILLION in damages.

*Maybe* Scottie's "worth" 40 mill, but that sure as hell doesn't mean he has 40 mill in the bank. And now, in order to defend themselves, these media outlets are going to have to research and make public all his dirty laundry to prove how broke he is. And here Scottie thought he was being smart, launching this lawsuit in the hopes of getting some quick cash. Something tells me that's not going to happen.

Good for you Scotty. Don't let these irresponsible media outlets off the hook. They made money by gaining eyeballs/readership by writing a story that they think will be juicy and interesting to the public. In this case, if Scotty is telling the truth, they made money at his expense...and since the story was false, why should they profit from that? The media outlets have gotten their money AND they hurt Scotty Pippen's image. So they should get their butts sued.

Sue that bastards. F'ing media think they can spew anything out there true/false/private and otherwise and the victims are expected to suck it up when the media is wrong because they know the courts have their backs EXCEPT when the victim has the bucks to keep the judges honest. Trying getting an interview with any of those media outlets heads and all you'll get back is Mr. Levinstern was not available for comment. But if you refused to respond to them they'll frame your response as if you're afraid, or guilty. Don't let them issue a private letter of apology or some BS one liner nested in the hog reports. Those SOB need to be taught a lesson.

This is a fine example of the media saying whatever they feel like saying.
Media Outlets need to go back to digging up the details instead of trying to be THE FIRST to post or broadcast their stories.

Temper tantrum much? I feel that if this was an every day (poor folk) issue, he would be the kid in the middle of the toy aisle kicking and screaming. News outlets get it wrong sometimes, get over it.

Well of course he's not broke - when he was playing for the Bulls, his nickname was "No Tipping" Pippen at all the restaurants in Deerfield, IL where the Bulls practice...
