Duggar Family

Snaps Pic of Miscarried Baby

12/15/2011 3:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The family from TLC's "19 Kids & Counting" chose a unique way to commemorate the life of their 20th child, who passed away this week in a miscarriage -- they took an artsy picture of the fetal corpse ... and distributed it at the memorial.

Jubilee Shalom Duggar was due in April ... but Michelle Duggar suffered a miscarriage on Sunday in her 2nd trimester.

The Duggars held a memorial today at their church in Arkansas, where they distributed the above photographs -- containing messages like, "There is no foot too small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world."

The photos were first posted on Twitter by a family member -- and then surfaced on a fan site.

We reached out to the family for comment -- so far, no word back.

You know what's really yukki, and discusting about all of this, is how easy it is for people now days to just hop on the web, and to see that someone has been, or is grieving, and what do they do...They judge, having no compassion, no heart, no love, no kindness, or empathy; for their spirit has long passed away. Learn to care and love, and to not judge....And we wonder why the world is the way it is right now? hmmmm

Can't people let them grieve their loss .. They are no different than you or me , this was not for the money ... I would like to tell them that I'm sorry for their loss and hope the future will grace them again , It's God's will that blesses us all .

There is absolutely nothing disrespectful about this. As a therapist who works with people coping with grief and loss every day, I can tell you that the parents had those pictures taken in honor and remembrance of the life of their child, whether that life was inside the mother or not, they interacted with their child every moment of every day as this child grew inside her. In the Victorian Era, death photos were extremely common and posing with a dead relative very common, in fact, they would many times be arranged in very life-like ways, wearing their favorite clothing and sometimes held up by sophisticated aparatus that portrayed a lifelike pose. This is their child, and if they want photos of their child, they are entitled to them without judgement. TMZ, shame on you for taking them down, this is a human life, which ended, not a side show and that child deserves to be seen if the parents are okay with that. Sorry to see that you caved to ignorance and pressure.

In Europe it is common practice to take a picture of the deceased.A still-born infant?to each his own,I guess.

OMG, you dip****s...TMZ is the one who made the photos public. It was a private memorial, a family member (not immediate) published the photo as a tribute on twitter, probably not thinking a gossip site would sink as low as this to post the pictures online.

There is nothing wrong with what they did, a family can grieve and celebrate a life (YES, a life) any way they choose. What TMZ did was wrong, they are the freaks for posting it, clearly, as they already took the photos down!

Please...why such a big deal? This is neither unusual nor grotesque. There's a nonprofit organization called "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" that has photographers everywhere ready to come at short notice for free and take beautiful photos of stillbirths and newly deceased babies, so the family can remember them in photos. It helps with the grieving process. It's crazy that folks are acting like the Duggars are weird or the only people to ever have done this.

I think its a beautiful thing, this was a life that deserves to be remembered, it was a little life even at that young of an age. A baby that will be remembered!!

I'm sorry about the loss of your baby. I do however think that you shuld not have published the picture to everybody at the memorial.

The Duggars children are well adjusted beautiful children. If they were to have fifty more, they would be contributing better children to this world than any of the negative people who post hateful comments here. It is not disgusting to have respectful giving children.

I never saw the pictures of the baby...but i have to say that my husband and i lost our first born baby, i was 6 months pregnant and we took pictures of her, named her and put the pictures of her on our facebook wall to share with our family and friends. Yes it was and is a very special and private moment in our lives, but it was something we decided we wanted to share. She also has a picture on the wall of our house with the rest of our family for everyone to see when they come in our house. There is nothing wrong with taking pictures of stillborn babies as long as its tasteful and respctable. Unless you have experienced losing a child, you will never understand how special those pictures and feelings are.

19 kids... No Comment.

Pictures of the deceased child: Honestly? Has no one here heard of the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep organization? Lots of people take pictures of their little ones they lose. This is a real person that they loved before she was even born. Lots of parents never want to forget that little person and are afraid without those pictures, they will. They won't see her first birthday, day of school, boyfriend, etc. Those pictures are all they are going to have to last a lifetime. Don't knock something you obviously have not had the misfortune to experience or ability to begin to understand.

I think the pictures are beautiful. What a wonderful way to remember their child. When we have a stillborn in the hospital we make hand and feet molds. I don't understand the controversy. I wish them well.
