NL MVP Ryan Braun

Medication to Blame

for Dirty Banned Substance Test

12/19/2011 4:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Braun
Ryan Braun
's positive test for banned substances was caused by medication he's taking for a private medical issue -- NOT performance enhancing drugs ... this according to sources directly connected with Major League Baseball.

We're told the reigning National League MVP is adamant he has not taken drugs or steroids of any kind.

One source simply told us ... "The medication contained banned substances resulting in the positive test."  We're also told prior to taking the dirty test, Braun had always tested negative for banned substances.

The nature of Braun's medical ailment is unclear.

It's also unclear if the Milwaukee Brewers star knew the substances were in his medication before he took it -- though it seems highly unlikely.

I'm guessing since it's a private medical issue it must a have been some penis enlarging drugs he was taking.

Braun deserves the benefit of the doubt. MLB should complete it's investigation and make a decision. The public isn't entitled to know the details of the ailment for which he was treated unless he wants to share. If it is eventually determined he's guilty, the penalty should be imposed and he'll have to bear the taint the rest of his career, deservedly so.

Word back here in Milwaukee is that it was Herpes medication?

I hope that this proves true. When it was first reported that Braun had tested "positive" I told all, on both the Red Sox and Yankees forums, that "I choose to reserve any judgement until much more information becomes public". I so hope that Braun is clean.

Word in Milwaukee he as herpes. He is suing for leaked information in the hippa standpoint

First of all, Bud Selig does not own the Brewers. Mark Attanasio does. The positive result was not for PEDs. He took a second test and passed. The MLB is not to release information on postives until a second test and arbitration/appeal process has been completed. So I have a feeling someone (ESPN) is going to be sued here for defamation once the dust settles.

Everyone who is claiming that Braun does not have a waiver does not have proof of that fact. It was leaked he failed the test. You can fail the test and have to wait for the appeal process to have the waiver nullify the result. The waiver does not automatically give you a silver bullet to make all positive tests null in void. It just gives you the power to win an appeal if the substance matches the tested substance.

It's pretty sad how flawed this system is. Nobody will ever look at this guy the same way even though he probably didn't do anything wrong.

I have friend within the Brewers organization.. Braun was taking a medication for an STD. That is why they are trying to keep his "medical condition" covered up. They don't want to have to explain to all the kids out there that the MLB MVP has herpes.

"medication he's taking for a private medical issue" doesn't really matter as he is responsible for what he puts into his body. It's all or nothing when it comes to PEP whether it's steroids or nasal spray for congestion. When in doubt get approval for the Rx from the governing body otherwise suck it up cheater.

Its called herpes...that is a private medical condition and doesn't have to share that with anyone.

I'm going to use that excuse when I fail a piss test. "Uh, yeah, employer? I have a secret medical condition." It's got to work, right?
