Heavy D

Cause of Death Revealed

12/27/2011 9:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Heavy D
Heavy D
died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis ... and a long flight back to L.A. from a Michael Jackson memorial concert may have been a contributing factor.

A pulmonary embolism is a blockage of one or more arteries in the lungs -- most often caused by blood clots which travel in from other parts of he body. In Heavy's case, the clot was formed in his legs.

Days before Heavy died, he was on a flight back from Europe, after performing at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Wales.

Officials from the L.A. County Coroner's Office say Heavy also suffered from heart disease, which could have been a contributing factor in his death.

The Coroner's Office has classified the death as "natural."

As TMZ first reported, Heavy died on November 8, 2011. He was 44 years old.

Deep leg vein thrombosis is often associated with long plane flights, in which a clot can form due to prolonged immobility.

Good. Too bad all rap and hip-hop "artists" can't get a fatal DVT.

Fat sick and nearly dead a movie about juicing and reversing the effects of overindulging. Very easy to watch, it's too bad "D" didn't change his name.

my aunt developed DVTs after we flew to canada from barbados.... deep venous thrombosis doesn't equal being overweight; the warn pregnant woman against this as well, and anybody who would be sitting still for an extended period of time, like on a long plane flight...

RIP heavy d...

Sure, "natural," now that it's becoming practically "natural" to be 100 pounds overweight, and sedentary.

But yes, I know David Bloom died of DVT and he wasn't fat. I know "thin" people can die of it.

I just don't like it when people eat more than they need, and take up more space than they need to, and burden the only bodies they will ever have. Fat acceptance is counterintuitive. We don't accept other kinds of self-destructive behavior.

Your people are supposed to tell you not to sit the whole flight back and forth. Plus when you return to the US, the first place you should it is your doctors office. RIP Heavy D. to soon my friend. The good ones are taken and we're left with the fake one. Why?

Wow, who knew if you went to a tribute event for a child molester you would die from deep leg thrombosis. I guess anyone who might even remotely be fat should stay the heck away from anything Michael Jackson related. That's death by association my friends.

I blame the Jackson's and their greed. He would not have taken that trip had it not been for them! RIP Heavy!

This article tactfully neglects to mention that DVT is closely associated with obesity and the resulting diabetes as well. Why dance around that fact? It's not going to help anyone else avoid the problem if we don't talk about it.

ANYBODY can have this happen, soldiers who sit too long in tanks without being able to move, people flying, even road trips. Never sit for more than two hours without moving your legs around. Why do you think people who have surgery and are stuck in bed get blood clots, you have to get up and move around as soon as you can. Being fat had nothing to do with this, did you not read long trip from overseas?
