Brock Lesnar

Beaten Into Retirement

12/31/2011 5:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem
Brock Lesnar knows when to hang it up. He announced he was quitting the whole MMA thing after suffering a lightning fast loss to Alistair Overeem last night at UFC 141.

Lesnar was floored by a brutal kick to the stomach and the fight was stopped at the 2:26 mark of round one. He said after the fight, "I've had a really difficult couple of years with my disease, and I'm going to officially say tonight is the last time."

The former pro wrestling star fought only three times in the last 2.5 years while battling a lower-intestinal disease that nearly killed him.

Overeem, meanwhile, will next fight UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos for a shot at the title.

Brock has won my respect. He battled and endured his disease & he still came back to fight. Overeem is just unhurt fresh meat right now. Now Overeen has to keep up his winning streak to make his name stick. Lesnar has already made his name and will go down in the books as a talented fighter. LOVE YOU Brock

Its a shame he's retiring. He started MMA much later than everyone else and was fast tracked into the UFC by fighting top guys right away. He just didn't have the experience and then on top of that having to battle diverticulitis twice is just insane.

Reem is a roid head which is how he got to be so big, horse meat my you know what. The guy is a roider and skipped out on his drug test so he could clean his system and take it a few days later. I hope JDS knocks him out.

Best of luck to Brock in the future.

He said he pre-planned this so I'm guessing the kick had nothing to do with his decision. Now that he's free again, what's he going to do? Jump back into the WWE then realize he has to travel 300 days a year and the have him quit again? Does this man stick behind anything he starts? It'd be nice to see him back in the WWE (then maybe some of us will star*****ching again) but he'll probably still be as pigheaded, arrogant jerk who won't job to anyone.

Brock could probably go back to the WWE and make as much or more money. While wrestling is athletic it isn't a brutal on the body as MMA and he could probably do that for many more years.

It was the fighter that ended his carrier it was the toll the dease took on him.
You can't go through that and train effectively or even have 100% health for many many years if ever.
Remeber the old lesner the had speed and power and was startling fast for a man his size.
This brock in the last two fights was nothing like that and his gut was still far from totally back to normal.

He had great promise but it was cut short and he made the correct choice.

no surprise as Brock knows he'll get some awesome pay days in WWE without all the hurt. Wouldn't put it past him to have taken a dive to speed up the retirement. WWE bound for sure. Question is when?

Piss on brock. He didn't have as much "experience" and that's why he lost? He lost because he is terrified of being hit and that's something you can't teach or learn. Either you are scared to get hit or you aren't. Watch his fight with Cain and see how he runs away and does a rolling backflip to get away from the strikes. He got hit once by overeem and you could literally see all the fight fly out of him. He tried a takedown and Overeem stuffed it. Brock sucks as a fighter and most MMA fans are glad to see him go. The only ones who marked out for him are old WWE fans.

Dude, I don't care who you are, you take a kick like that to the gut the way Brock did, you're done. Your mind might say keep going but your body will say no way Jose. Just ask Oscar when he took that gut punch from Hopkins.

i see people saying watch brocks fights he is a good fighter..being a UFC fan and having seen all of his fights.he isnt a great fighter.he relied on getting guys down to the ground and laying on them with his weight the whole time.that doesnt make a good fighter.when he got exposed that he had no chin and his stand up sucked everyone stood and banged with him.he was way over rated as a fighter.and for the guy mentioning overeem and roids.brock says hi he is nothing but roids
