Tim Tebow

Religious Leaders Pull for

Pats to Beat NFL's Chosen One

Tim Tebow
might have God on his side ... but he won't have the backing of some religious leaders in New England when the bible totin' QB takes on the Patriots in Foxboro Saturday.

TMZ spoke with a couple of holy men who are not only backing Tom Brady ... they're throwing jabs at Tebow's Broncos. Reverend Stephen Ayers from the Old North Church in Boston says, "I'm not sure God is a huge football fan but Tim Tebow is more than welcome to come worship with us on Sunday morning ... after hopefully losing to us."

Meanwhile, Reverend Amy Alletzhauser from Calvary United Methodist Church in Rhode Island tells us they'll be selling a Tebow sub sandwich at a church fundraiser this weekend. The catch? Rev Amy says it's a veggie sub "without meat, guts, or glory." Boom, God smack!

Tebow does have one brave soul backing him in the land of chowda heads -- Pastor Joseph Coppola went on TMZ Live today to explain why he's still praying for Tebow.

@Polentical

I'm starting to think that if God is a big NFL football fan, he's a bit of a "drama queen" like Lindsay Lohan or something. :)

How else do you explain all of these last minute "Tebow Time" comebacks in the 4th quarter and overtime? If God likes to watch Tebow play football, he sure is getting a lot of people's attention with all these statistically flabbergasting "John 3:16 coincidences" and Tim's miraculous performances this season.

Tebow’s favorite Bible verse: John 3:16

Tebow’s passing yards: 316

Tebow’s avg. yards per pass: 31.6

Steelers Time Of Possession: 31 minutes and 6 seconds…

Here’s the cherry on top, Tebow threw the game-winning touchdown to wide-receiver Demaryius Thomas who was born when? ON CHRISTMAS DAY 1987 of course…

Check out this picture of Tim Tebow in a college game at Florida with John 3:16 on his face. Spooky stuff isn't it?

Tebow got what he wanted from his grandstanding, lots of attention. That's the reason for his "religion" posturing, which his own team mates have said he should keep off the field. Football is a sport but grandstanding gets all the little follow-the-trend sheep in line. Remember planking??
Just saying...baaaaaa.

Who cares. No idea why people keep talking about this guy. There are a lot of religious nutjobs that believe in a magical all knowing guy in the sky that demands everybody worship him. This guy is just one of those many nutjobs.

Like most religious narcissists, T Bo along with his T Bagger fans find it perfectly acceptable to put their religious views on display in a public arena, regardless of the fact that it's filled with people who have opposing religious viewpoints. The Broncos should have put a halt to it out of respect for their fans. There's a time and a place to praise God and express thanks. The 50 yard line on a national tv broadcast isn't one of them. If a Muslim was doing the same thing, his fans would be outraged.
The fact that he has publicly outed himself as a virgin doesn't impress me either.

Tebow needs to reread Matthew 6 & 7 -

"Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be SEEN by them"

"when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be SEEN by men"

"when you pray, go to your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen"

Tebow uses religion to glorify himself. Religion is a sacred thing that should be kept private and out of sports:

"Do not give to dogs what is sacred, do not throw your pearls to pigs."

Yes, I live in Denver and I am a Broncos fan, but not because Tebow is religious. He is improving as our QB. Reverend Amy should be ashamed of herself. So what if Tebow prays. Get over it EVERYBODY. If he wants to pray then let him. If you want to drink or smoke then do it. WHO THE HECK CARES????? Tebow did NOT ask for all the media coverage. The media took it upon themselves to live and breathe Tebow. How many football players have you seen point to the sky after they scored? EXACTLY-- A LOT. Go bug another team and let ours concentrate on playing football.
