Heather Locklear's family wants her to check in to a medical rehab facility as soon as she's released from the hospital ... but Heather is resisting ... TMZ has learned.
Sources directly connected with Heather's family tell TMZ ... yesterday was not an isolated incident. Heather has been struggling with prescription drugs for a long time. In fact, sources say Heather checked in to an L.A. area rehab facility last October and stayed 2 weeks.
We're told Heather's family wants her to go to a medical facility this time around -- not a rehab center.
But so far ... Heather is resisting.
As we first reported, Heather's sister called 911 Thursday just after 2 PM PT and said she had taken a dangerous mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol. She was hospitalized in serious condition.
Heather is currently in the ICU of the hospital in stable condition -- and earlier today, she got a visit from her sister.

...wow...the ICU...I hope she gets the help she needs..and soon...a little too scarey when you do that much damage that u need that unit...
I always find these stories hilarious, because it's always the family that caused the addiction in the first place.
At this rate she and Lindsay Lohan will end up as the subject of a Lifetime Disease of the Week Movie.
It's easy for someone ELSE to say "WHAT Heather should do."
Consider the plight of Joan Kennedy -
Turning herself over to A.A. meetings.
And the knucklehead that began taping/reporting on her.
Not to make excuses for Heather or anyone else:
But it's a lot more complicated for a celebrity -
And they're Beyond_Vulnerable because you can't trust anyone in that environment.

Damn there's some mean spirited people out there. Why hate on someone just because they have a substance abuse problem? I'm not saying you even have to be sorry for the person and I'm certainly not into enabling, BUT... at least show a little compassion and wish them the best. Personally,I'm guessing that she's really a pretty nice person and I find her very attractive. Lighten up people, " there but for the grace of God "....

Heather has never been the same since her last divorce. But having your husband cheat on you with your so called friend would be really hard to deal with. Hope she will get the help she needs.
Living with an addiction is so hard. It is a life long battle. It is nothing to joke around about. I sure hope she gets the help she needs.
