X Games Champ Sarah Burke

Dies After Skiing Accident

1/19/2012 1:55 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Sarah Burke
Freestyle skiing legend Sarah Burke -- a 4-time X Games gold medal winner -- died today from injuries sustained during a recent skiing accident.

The 29-year-old Canadian crashed hard during a training session at the Park City Mountain Resort superpipe in Utah on January 10.

According to reports, Burke went into cardiac arrest shortly after the accident -- but was resuscitated and airlifted to a nearby hospital ... where she underwent major surgery to repair a tear in a major artery.

But Sarah's injuries proved to be too severe and she was placed on life support. Sarah's publicist confirms she died today, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, fellow freestyle skier Rory Bushfield.

From all of us at http://www.mylifeatspeed.com - Sarah, you will be missed but never forgotten. Here is a link to our story - which also includes a fundraising site for Rory and the family. I urge you TMZ - can you share the link too? Here is our original blog post - http://mylifeatspeed.com/archives/10854 Sarah Burke passed away a few hours ago. Here is our original post and a link to her family's fundraiser to help pay for all of the costs - www.giveforward.com/sarahburke - I had to watch the video again (in the post) to remind myself of how she celebrated life. She exemplified My Life at Speed and why we all do what we do. So to all of our friends, please donate, say prayer for Rory and her family and give those around you a big hug. You have no idea when life changes. Sarah Burke - you will be missed, but never forgotten.
