"American Idol" judge Steven Tyler is finding himself on the other end of the criticism this afternoon ... he's being mercilessly attacked for his rendition of the National Anthem today.

Tyler, in a glittery New England Patriots scarf, sung "The Star Spangled Banner" before today's Raven/Patriots AFC Championship game.

Popular sports site Bleacher Report posted the video under the headline, "Watch Steven Tyler Butcher the National Anthem." Jason Whitlock, columnist for FOXsports.com, tweeted, "Steven Tyler far more obscene than Janet Jackson's t*tty."

To us, he sounded exactly like you'd expect Steven Tyler to. But we ask you ...

I knew when he started to sing he was going to get a lot of flack for it, It was not good. It sounded like he was just screaming it, Didn't he rehearse and someone tell him it was not good??

He is Steven Tyler, and he sang it like Steven Tyler, and did it well considering it is one of the most difficult pieces to sing! He loves Boston and the Patriots, and would never be as dis-respectful as this news report is!(And for 62 years ago...he did very well!)

not great, not horrible- IMHO the bigger deal is not knowing the words. O'er the land of the free, not O the land of the free.

Who writes these stories? Use some proper grammar and don't rely on spell check. I wish you would hire a journalist to write these stories. At least a community college degree would enable them to write a three paragraph brief. Harvey, your killing me. This is Busch league reporting.

Yes, it was epic suckage, but yes, I blame the person or persons responsible for selecting this type of vocalist for such an honor. This song is nowhere near his wheelhouse, and he sounded exactly as one should expect. He's a rock 'n roll screamer, and that's just what we got. Terrible.

@Johnathon Baker - before you ridicule someone else's grammar/spelling, you should check yourself. "Harvey, your killing me" should read Harvey, you're killing me... And bush league has nothing whatsoever to do with the Anheiser Busch brewing company. Fail

He did not change the words to the national anthem like he did at the Indy 500 when he ended it with "and the home of the Indianapolis 500". I will never forget the look on A.J. Foyt's face
