Steven Tyler's National Anthem

Did It Suck?

"American Idol" judge Steven Tyler is finding himself on the other end of the criticism this afternoon ... he's being mercilessly attacked for his rendition of the National Anthem today.

Tyler, in a glittery New England Patriots scarf, sung "The Star Spangled Banner" before today's Raven/Patriots AFC Championship game.

Popular sports site Bleacher Report posted the video under the headline, "Watch Steven Tyler Butcher the National Anthem." Jason Whitlock, columnist for FOXsports.com, tweeted, "Steven Tyler far more obscene than Janet Jackson's t*tty."

To us, he sounded exactly like you'd expect Steven Tyler to. But we ask you ...

Steven sang in his style, also with pride & emotion, isn't that how you're suppose to sing our nation's anthem?

It's Steven Tyler. This is how he sings as the lead singer for a rock band. If they wanted Beyonce' they should have asked her to do it. He sounds just like he always does. I think he tried to do it in a respectful way. His voice may not be compatible with the song but his voice and singing style is what it is. I feel sorry for all of the insults heaped on him for trying to do his best. At least he didn't try to turn it into a pop song like Christina Aguilera did. Leave him alone. People in general and the press in particular can be so cruel.

Jason Whitlocks' recent Twitter post as well as his comments about Steven Tyler when he was on KLAC’s Loose Cannons Monday afternoon saying Tyler looked like, “Lesley Visser with a wig on," is absolutely disrespectful to both parties. Lesley has achieved more than any man or woman in the business. His comments were in very bad taste. He obviously has no good upbringing to make such unprovoked attacks on people.

What ever happened to common decency? He should be strongly reprimanded for both his Twitter comments and his comments on KLAC. When he speaks, he represents Fox - since he's one of the faces of Fox Sports.

Could it be we've heard the Janet Jackson's and Mariah Carey's of the world butcher this song so much that we've forgotten the actual melody? Well, Steven Tyler didn't. He hit every note. And he did a damned good job of it!

I thought Steven's rendition of the National Anthem was the worsed I have ever heard. He has lost it if he ever had it and his filthy comments on Idol is discusting. This is suppose to be a family show.None of the other judges have to use this language to get their point a cross. I believe he a very confused individual!

Give the guy a break. Tyler did a pretty good job considering it was bloody cold out, and while it wasn't the performance of his anthem singing career, it was by no means poor quality.

He knew his limits, and did his best, and made the best of it in his musical way. Not everyone's taste to be sure, but imo, very good.

AND, this is the national anthem, not rock and roll Aerosmith style: what are ya expecting anyway? The national anthem is no piece of cake.

AND, I wish folks would stop with the celebrity thing, and just get talented operatic range singers to do the job. Please. No more having celebrities on the hot-seat for an anthem that is diabolically hard to sing anyway.
