Speaking just hours after the passing of Whitney Houston, legendary singer Tony Bennett said he feels with the rash of celebrity deaths recently ... it's time to legalize drugs.

Bennett performed at the Beverly Hilton last night Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party, in an evening dedicated to Houston. Bennett told the crowd, "First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston. Let's legalize drugs, like Amsterdam, it's a very sane city now."

Davis, Houston's mentor and producer, remembered her by saying, "Whitney was a beautiful person and she had a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage ... so many times. So simply put: Whitney would have wanted the music to go on."

Jennifer Hudson is scheduled to perform a tribute in Houston's honor at tonight's Grammy Awards.

Oh, please ~ MJ didn't do illegal street drugs -- crack, heroin, etc. -- like Winehouse & Houston!

Because if the drugs were legal they would have been less fatal? Why is it always the idiots who speak the loudest?

Mr. Bennett was making a general observation concerning the ineffectual "War on Drugs". Recently, 4 former British Columbia Attorney Generals compiled a letter to the Premier of British Columbia requesting that marijuana be legalized since drug control of this substance has been a costly failure. They illustrate that prohibition against alcohol in the U.S. was a dismal failure which allowed organized crime to flourish much like the trade in marijuana in North America today. Organized crime profiting through marijuana distribution is almost non-existent in the Netherlands since legalization.

That is just too stupid for a response
lanyone in favor is already hooked on drugs. I say put all the druggies in ther own state and see how long they live. The crime wave would escalate even more than it is already

His views are just too stupid for a response

like i said anyone in favor is s*** put all the drugies in ther own state and see how long they live. Lets just legalize everyone huh? Its' too bad all these movie stars are dying from drug overdose. It just proves they are spoiled, have too much money to spend and think they deserve anything they want, regardless of the law
