2012 Grammy Awards host LL Cool J wasted no time addressing the passing of Whitney Houston, leading the star-packed audience in a prayer in her honor.

Immediately after, LL showed a clip of Whitney singing "I Will Always Love You" at the Grammys back in 1994.

Jennifer Hudson is expected to perform a musical tribute to Whitney later in the show. According to Us Magazine, JHud broke down crying while rehearsing earlier in the day and had to restart her number several times before she could finish it.

al sharpton reminds us all that Whitney was born and bred in the "THE BLACK CHURCH."

What an ass hole.
Is it the black church or is it a church of god, or jesus, or mohaamed....
This thought process should inform others of how ingrained racism is in the eyes of idiots like big fat ugly ol' Al Sharpie...
shut up and sit down.
Black people need to stop allowing themselves to be led around by the nose ...by bigots like Al ...
Some a-hole got all xenaphobic about Michael Jackson as well.
Whitney was an American.
Let's leave it at that.
Everyone can share in the strength that comes from events like this....
For Whitney's sake...Let's not make this another racial melt down....
Let's all stand together and be sad and proud of a true American Legend.

I just hope the ACLU does like they usually do in situations like this and protest causing unnecessary changes in television once again!

@ Leslie-Thank you very much for this information on Whitney Houston Charity work. I am passing it along to others. She was more than an entertainer. She was a Philanthropist who cared for others less fortunate than her.

I read about people saying "Why LL Cool J as the Grammy host?". After the introduction to the evening, I say, "Who else but LL Cool J?" He set the tone and was very reverent. Kudos to all that wrote and planned that opening!

Why must you christians keep shoving your belief in an imaginary friend down our throats. Keep your prayers and your praying where it belongs, in your homes and in your churches. This is a public broadcast and the whole prayer thing was offensive and unnecessary.
This is not a memorial for Whitney, this isvthe Grammy's, this was supposed to be a celebration of music and the artists who kept it going for the past year.

who cares

I watched a hour of the awards and it is nothing more then b rated entertainment. Chris brown running around bumping grinding and lyp syncing.... Lame is all i can say. There is only two singers on the awards show with natural talent and not gimmicks or lypsyncing

The Grammys shouldn't be all about Whitney. It's not fair to all of the artists who are relevant now. She hadn't been relevant for years - by her own doing. She yelled all of her songs so it's not surprising that she lost her voice. Many artists can belt out a song like that, she was just the first. Very overrated IMO.

Once she had more money than she could spend she blew it all on partying. She didn't have a tragic past. She had a very supportive family but CHOSE to be with a bad boy and live the rock star lifestyle, in spite of having a child. In the twilight years she could have raised a fortune for charity like Elton John has done. He had addictions as well but realized he was being a selfish jerk and straightened up. I'll be sad when Elton or someone of his caliber dies.
It seems to me like she pulled an MJ, who also made his suicide look like an accident. Both choosing to do themselves in right when it would garner them the most attention.
