Whitney Houston

Few Pills Recovered

at Death Scene

2/13/2012 7:45 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Multiple medicine bottles were found in the Beverly Hills hotel room where Whitney Houston diedLaw enforcement sources tell TMZ ... multiple medicine bottles were found in the Beverly Hills hotel room where Whitney Houston died ... but we're told there were NOT a lot of pills at the scene.

Among the pills ... ibuprofen (painkiller), Xanax (anti-depressant), Midol (for menstrual cramps), amoxicillin (for treating bacterial infections) ... and more.

We're told the amoxicillin was prescribed recently because Whitney had been suffering from a sore throat.

We're told some of the pills were old ... some issued in 2011 ... but some of the bottles were from 2012. We're told the bottles that were recovered at the scene did not contain a lot of pills.

Sources tell us ... some of the prescriptions were filled at the infamous Mickey Fine pharmacy in Beverly Hills ... where Michael Jackson had numerous prescriptions filled for Demerol and other drugs.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... it's possible Whitney suffered a heart attack caused by an adverse reaction to her medication, but it is simply too early to make an official call on the cause of death.

We're told the L.A. Coroner's Office has removed the hold on Whitney's body ... which means her family can now have Whitney transported back to Atlanta, where the singer will be laid to rest.

I didn't think she drown, me thinks there is more to this story then what is being said and the family knows it, but doesn't want her memory tarred worse than it is.

Just a thought.

Xanax is a anti-anxiety. Tmz, Ggt it right before you start describing medications, as they DO different things. Xanax increases the effect of alcohol.

Well she had her Security Guard and other close people to her in her room, they probably hid the pills or maybe Whitney took them all....Im sure the first thing they did when they realized she was dead was panic, and looked around to see if there was anything that could incriminate any of them or to protect their asses. RIP Whitney, but when will Hollywood learn? How many stars have we lost now to their not so glamorous lifestyle?

Who wrote this? Try doing a simple google search next time when looking up medications. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug rather than a "painkiller" (is that a technical term?). Xanax is an anti-ANXIETY medication (of the benzodiazepine class), not an anti-depressant. A testament to the type of "fact-checking" and "journalism" that TMZ is world-famous for. To paraphrase the author's conclusion, "maybe the drugs that I know nothing about had some kind of an adverse reaction or something."

Whitney Houston did not need to take a lot of medications in order for there to be adverse reactions. Mixing medications can lead to multiple-drug toxicity. Mixing sedatives and tranquilizers can depress breathing and heart beat. Add to that mix alcohol and the adverse effects worsen.
The toxicology report will tell the tale. Until then all we have is speculation based on Houston's past addictions. She could have died a natural death due to stroke, embolism, organ failure; she also could have mixed drugs and alcohol together. The mix doesn't need to be filled with lots and lots of pills, just the wrong combination.

TMZ IS JUST RUSHING TO PUT A STORY OUT SO THEY CAN BE FIRST TO REPORT! THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY INCONSISTENCIES IN TMZ'S REPORTING THAT ANYONE SHOULD TAKE ANY NEWS HERE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT! tHEY REPORT, THEN TRY TO COUNTER EARLIER STATEMENTS WITH ANOTHER EXCLUSIVE! I WONDER WHY ALL THESE "SOURCES" AREN'T REPORTING TO THE MAJOR NEWS NETWORKS AND ONLY TO TMZ! GEEZ GO TO MSNBC, FOX AND CNN FOR THE TRUTH! http://entertainment.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/13/10396998-coroner-i-didnt-discuss-meds-drowning-with-whitney-houstons-family

I think the article is trying to imply she committed suicide by stating the obvious of there not being many pills. She had just talked to her mom and aunt a half hour before the bath so taking the pills over long term wouldn't be possible. Lots of pills in short period.

I really wish you guys would stop saying, this was expected, and no one is surprised. I didn't expect it. I really thought Whitney was getting better. I thought since she got away from Bobby, she was changing her life. 5 years ago, I probably wouldn't have been shocked. In recent years, you'd see pictures of her with her daughter and mom, looking great. She finished a new album, she toured for it, and she just finished filming a movie, and there were talks of a Waiting to Exhale 2, with her saying she wanted to sign on again. I was so rooting for her! It looked like things were changing for the better, so its really tragic to know that she was trying to be the girl she once was again.

I need to clarify some things because it is obvious that TMZ reporters don't know much about medicine.
Xanax is a BENZODIAZEPINE. It is a tranquilizer or anti-convulsant. It is DANGEROUS to mix any anti-anxiety medication with anti-depressants which are different classes than benzodiazepines: anti-depressants include bupropon, loxapine, marprotiline, monomanine oxidase inhibitors, seotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, among others.

Mixing a tranquilizer with a sedative increases the sedative effect of both drugs. Mixing in alcohol further increases the sedative effect.

It is possible that the medications caused the heart and breathing to stop. It is possible that Houston suffered from pulmonary or cardiac embolisms, a cerebral hemorrhage or stroke. Side effects on bensodiazepines includes trouble breathing, chest pain, dizziness, erratic heartbeat.
