PAUL McCARTNEY

Pays His Respects to Whitney

2/13/2012 4:47 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell lay flowers at a makeshift memorial for Whitney HoustonPaul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell just swung by the Beverly Hilton hotel to lay flowers at a makeshift memorial for Whitney Houston ... and TMZ has the pics.

Paul and Nancy dropped a bouquet of yellow roses at the scene, shook hands with some of Whitney's fans at the memorial and talked about how much they loved the late singer.

We're told the fans tried to compliment Paul on his performance at the Grammy Awards last night ... but Paul brushed off the praise ... insisting, "This is about Whitney, not me."

We can't find any evidence that Paul and Whitney ever sang together ... but clearly, the Beatles legend had a respect for her work.

This generation was asking who he was last night on Twitter. I don't know to laugh or cry?

WH was a Superstar like Macca and he paid his respects publicly recognizing her amazing gift to the world. My respect for him just went up a notch more, if it could.

Someone could have made a scene, taken the flowers he touched etc . . . because he is also a Superstar.

Thanks Paul for being human and showing everyone you are a gentleman.

I shudder to think what music will be like in 5 years from now. You don't have to have ANY talent now to sing and record a CD. You just need the right computer generated producer to produce it for you.

Adele is a breath of fresh air. No wonder she won 6 Grammys.

Sorry people this lady snorted and smoked so much cocaine that she lost her beautiful voice. Even Ozzy never did so much cocaine that he lost his voice. Think about that. She went thru 100 million dollars. Cocaine is a bitch and so are the people who take advantage of you while your on it!

As always Paul McCartney is showing respect to others. Caring about others in the music industry. And knowing that she left a child, a mother and other family behind. He knows the loss too well. He's a class act...the real deal. What a nice man

I think it was INCREDIBLY insensitive and TACKY that no mention was made of clarence clemons death after THE BOSS performed the opening number!!!!!!! No, ll fool-j went right to whitney houston's death. It appears the people at the venue did not think The Big Man
was important enough to mention after his family performed. SHAME ON THEM!!!

Paul may 'look' old, but his performance at the
Grammys ROCKED. He was AWESOME. While Springstein
looked out of breath, Sir Paul kept on going and
going and going...like the Energizer Bunny. Good
show Paul...you still got it. And you are such a
gentleman...you deserve much respect and happiness.

Tell you what, that's pretty classy, he don't have to bow or bend down to anyone, and McCartney's seen it all. There's not a more gifted and lucky man on this earth than he is, the next to last living Beatle, other than Brian Wilson who's still out jamming when everyone put HIM in a box 30 years ago! Go figure.
