Jeremy Lin

ESPN Apologizes Over Offensive Headline

2/18/2012 6:40 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

ESPN Headline Chink In the Armor
ESPN issued an apology last night after a racially insensitive headline about New York Knicks star guard Jeremy Lin appeared on their mobile site.

The headline, "Chink In the Armor," appeared only on mobile browsers, the network said, and only between the hours of 2:30 AM ET and 3:05 AM ET.

ESPN posted an apology on their media site, which read in part, "We are conducting a complete review of our cross-platform editorial procedures and are determining appropriate disciplinary action to ensure this does not happen again. We regret and apologize for this mistake."

I guarantee 2 things...the person who wrote this was educated and they knew that there was a double meaning to what they wrote. What they probably didnt think about was how dumb it was and it should absolutely get them fired

If ESPN would have used a BLACK derogatory word ALL HELL WOULD HAVE BROKE LOOSE. Sharpton, Jackson would have been crying for JUSTICE and Firings. Since Lin is just another smart Asian it's no big deal. Imagine ESPN saying a Spade in the Deck refering to a Black player on white Hockey team.

lol, ****ing ESPN, you'd figure they would have learned after showing a sign with him being called 'the YELLOW mamba' a few days ago. I also like the sneaky time it showed up, the guy who edited it must've thought he was a badass.

Shame on you ESPN! Why does the race card even have to come into play! Just give the kid props for being a good player! Period!

That is just disgusting this young man is in the highlight of his career and some small minded editor posted this ESPN should be ashamed of their selves.

Racism is for weak people who have low self esteem. They put down others to make them feel better.

The headline is nothing but trash. This sort of mind set promotes incidents like the Danny Chen's case in the military. There is nothing funny about degrading others. May God have mercy on these poor souls...I pray God continues to bless Jeremy Lin and the entire Knicks Team!

Not cool. But then what do you expect from ESPN. The only qualification for working there is to be able to ask the question - "What was going through your mind...." Fire the clown responsible. Not holding my breath on that one.

They could've picked on a number of races that would've been up in arms about it with an Al Sharpton type leading the way but in this case there seems to be a lot of class. And yeah, the people mouthing of this crap have some education and know better. So I assume they think we're the idiots and it goes right over our heads. There's plenty to talk about during a game so stay on topic.
