Whitney Houston

Laid to Rest

2/19/2012 10:10 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Pop legend Whitney Houston was buried today at Fairview Cemetery.

Pop legend Whitney Houston was buried today at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.

Houston was laid to rest next to her father, John Russell Houston, who died in 2003. The burial was a small "family only" affair and not the star-studded event that yesterday's moving funeral service was.

As TMZ first reported, Whitney's casket was heavily protected since the funeral yesterday ... with nearly 10 security guards working in shifts to keep it guarded.

Houston passed away back on February 11. A cause of death has yet to be determined.

Whitney Houston had a drug problem, went to rehab, died in her bathtub and got recognized on the news and internet. NJ governor ordered the flags half mast on Saturday as a tribute to Whitney. 24 year old Army Pfc. Cesar Cortez, assigned to 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Bliss, Texas, died the exact same day serving during Operation Enduring Freedom and I, personally, haven't heard his name until now. If you believe that the people who are dying daily for your and my freedom are the true American heroes and deserve more respect than any celebrity, re-post this

I find it utterly disrespectful and distasteful that TMZ and any other media outlet feel it appropriate to stream Whitney Houston's burial "live". I was shocked to see this when I visited the site today and I will not be watching. Wasn't it enough that the family allowed cameras for the service yesterday? Why is it that the media cannot allow her family to bury her privately? This is not a media event, this is the family's opportunity to say a final farewell to a loved one.

I don't understand why the news is reporting Houston's coffin was being heavily protected at the funeral home by 10 security guards. Why I wounder would that be public information and why did the family think such extraordinary security was necessary?

Houston was reported to be quite nasty overly demanding and a major pain in the butt. This is nothing new. Of course her friends will say the opposite. She was no sweetheart.

She destroyed her voice, her career and comebacks were beyond horrible. Wasted on stage, voice so bad, forgetting words she was booed her fans walked out wanting their money back and that's when Houston decided to show up.

Once upon a time many years ago she was very good. Again, that was a long time ago.

She was wasted right up until she died. She wasn't going to make a comeback her voice was gone and it wasn't coming back. She did way too much damage and she knew it. She was also turned down for the facelift she wanted a few weeks ago. After her examination her heart, lungs and liver her doctor would not do it.

Is anyone else as sick and tired of this crap as I am? Yeah she was great back in the 80's but Elvis who did way more for music than Whitney ever has, didn't get this much coverage!

i don't know what they are waiting for - if the casket was sent there yesterday, then she's not going to drive by - and if the family really wants privacy, they would have snuck in the back already

I can see that making nasty comments about a person you didn't really know personally makes some of you feel better. One person wrote in here, what you reap is what you sow, and that is so true. The venom that you are spewing towards the family, yes FAMILY of a person who was obviously troubled will come back at you 10 fold. Whitney is dead. She doesn't see the comments you are making. Her family may. They are suffering right now and will suffer for a long time to come. They did everything to help Whitney but she obviously wasn't ready for a life as a star and all the pitfalls and pressures that accompany.

I prefer to remember the good in people. She did contribute something to the world. She shared her amazing voice with us and used her money not just on drugs but on charities in vast amounts that helped many, which is more than ANYONE writing these comments has ever done.

I pay my respects to Whitney for what she has done and pray for her soul and the healing of her family. She left a void in their lives that can never be filled. If you don't respect Whitney, then please respect them.

CNN is showing the funeral procession from the funeral home to the cemetery. Classy, no cameraman babble. Watch it over there.

You guys are going to film the car driving into the cemetery? Riveting coverage morons! Maybe the brilliant cameramen can shout out some derogatory comments as they roll by, you know just to get a rise.

Wow I really wasn't expecting to see that. No parent should ever have to bury their child, let alone do it with cameras rolling. Give this family some room to grieve.
