Ex-President of Mexico

3/2/2012 7:22 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Vicente Fox -- the former President of Mexico -- knows first-hand ... the coke in the U.S. pales in comparison to the coke in his home country ... the kind you drink, not the kind you snort.

Fox was leaving Boa steakhouse in Hollywood last night ... when we asked why Mexican Coca-Cola tastes SO MUCH BETTER than the American kind.

Without thinking twice ... Fox fired off an explanation ... and it totally makes sense.

So, we gotta ask ...

Coke is better throughout Central America, as well (the kind you drink, although the kind you snort might be good too!). It's the use of cane sugar versus the high fructose corn crap they use in the US.

When I was in Europe a couple of years ago, I would buy Fanta - an orange soda make by Coca Cola at a market just outside of Florence. It tasted just incredible. When I got back to the states and bought it here, it tasted like crap. When I went back to Italy, it tasted great again. Found out it was also Sugar in Italy, Corn syrup in US.

Say It Isn't So

Mexican Coca-cola tastes like a watered-down version of U.S. Coca-cola, I think. U.S. Coke is known for the "acidic/bold taste" and, well, Mexico's version is TOO light-tasting, at least to me. I like that it's made w/real sugar, and NOT High Fructose Corn Syrup. But other than that good fact, I don't Mexico's tastes better, unless you dont like the acidic/bold taste of the US version.

And he should know. Just before becoming President, he used to work for Coca-Cola. FACT.

Why are we caring about this? Most Americans never heard of this guy when he WAS President of Mexico.

It's not just in Mexico-when I was on a business trip throughout Europe, I noticed the big difference in their Coke and Pepsi products versus here in the US. It tastes much better everywhere else except in the US!

Also, up until last January, there was an original Dr. Pepper bottling company in Dublin, Texas. People would drive there from all over, or have cases shipped to them, of the original sugar formula Dr. Pepper. To die for. Unfortunately Dr. Pepper came down hard on them & they had to take away all referrences to Dr. Pepper on their website. The owner was near tears, thinking how his grandfather would have hated to see his plant close. I won't ever drink Dr. Pepper again, after this high handed attitude. Rub the little guy out, use anything you can to rub him out.

It's the real sugar & the glass bottles. (People were litering with the glass bottles, causing too many flat tires, so we got stuck with cancer causing plastic now - Yuck, but what can you do?) Anyway, they are starting to carry it in a few stores now. Amazing how a small bottle can totally satisfy your thirst, but you can drink tons of the corn syrup stuff & still be thirsty. No wonder they changed the recipe. Bigger profits, right?

"Littering", sorry. Guess I'm pretty passionate about this subject..

Coke switched from sugar to corn syrup back in the 80's when they introduced New Coke. When they reverted back to the original recipe calling it Coke Classic, they started using corn syrup for cost saving measure. Since by then the public didn't have a side by side comparison product, they went along with the switch, happy to have the 'original' back.
