Bear Grylls

FIRED By Discovery Channel

3/13/2012 10:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

For the first time in his career, "Man vs. Wild" star Bear Grylls has failed to survive ... at the Discovery Channel -- because the network just fired him.

A rep for Discovery tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him."

Sources tell THR, the relationship came to a screeching halt after 37-year-old Grylls refused to participate in two mystery projects he was contracted for.

Grylls originally partnered with Discovery in 2006 when "Man vs. Wild" premiered on the network. So far, no word on Grylls' next move ... though it will probably somehow involve him drinking his own urine.

Jamie Grylls

Bear IS a survival expert and trained with the British army and the Israel army and has even trained with the foreign legion. He is NOT fake and knocked back being in his own TV show for a long time. He's not an actor. He might do things different, he might even have some help and it makes good tv (depending on opinion). He also happens to be a really nice family man, and a Christian. I have met him several times and he is down to earth, unassuming and humble. Anyway, just setting the record straight.

lmao bear grylls isn't fake.
the "hotel" incident was only once. and supposedly he did it to spend time with his family.
and Les Stroud, a survivorman? LOL right.
he gets all this equipment, vehicles and stuff while Bear only gets his backpack, clothes, a knife and maybe a parachute.

if anyone is a fraud, its Les Stroud.

Knowing the probability that he would eventually injure himself -and in fact did several times including crushing several vertebra, almost severing a finger, breaking his shoulder in Antartica- and facing the likelihood he would do so again and maybe a fatal one, plus having three children, would make it likely that he will want to keep the excitement while moderating the chances of injury, and maybe, if I'm close to being accurate, Discovery couldn't stomach a ratcheting down of risk.

Meh, he was probably told to make his show more dangerous by going alone into wilderness without a crew and didn't want to do it. I really don't have a problem with that either, if Discovery only cares about ratings rather than employee safety -- then I'm on Bear's side.
