'Luck' Cancelled

After 3rd Horse Death

3/14/2012 4:07 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

4:30 PM PT:  The crew was assembled for a meeting where they were just told the show is cancelled.  They are pissed because production was supposed to last another 8 months and they were just told they will not be getting any severance.

4:20 PM PT
: We've just spoken with on-set sources, who tell us the crew has not been told their show was cancelled.  They're learning it from TMZ.

has cancelled "Luck" after the latest horse death.

As TMZ reported, yesterday a third horse died during production of the show, and HBO just made the drastic decision to lower the boom.

HBO released a statement that reads in part, "While we maintained the highest safety standards possible, accidents unfortunately happen and it is impossible to guarantee they won't in the future."

The statement goes on ... "We maintained the highest safety standards throughout production, higher in fact than any protocols existing in horse racing anywhere with many fewer incidents than occur in racing or than befall horses normally in barns at night or pastures."

Guess they shouldn't have KILLED any horses, and poor babies got no severance- at least they're not DEAD

The crew always gets the short end of the stick. What a shame. I hope HBO will step up and treat their employees fairly.

Sorry about your LUCK, but something had to be done, someone was not handling those horses properly for 3 to have to be put down like that. NO show is worth that.

wouldn't it have been easier to get PETA involved, change camera angles and be more responsible?

NOTE: the phrase above on their sign "Leave Nothing To Chance"

How ironic. You should not have CHANCED or risked the lives of 3 horses. How is that "luck" for the horses? It is just man exploiting horses for financial gain and it's not ok.

I was sure that the pressure would kick into the shows producers sometime soon.. but this is even better. that show was a mess from the start. Too bad it was 3 horses to damn late though! Geez

3 horses was enough?
My dad breed horses for fun ( he is actually a banker) and on that farm so far 7 horses has died by getting stuck into the fence, or hurting themself on teh rocky ground while running and falling.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO This is a great show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF

Rise of The Apes was made with ZERO live animals, all CGI! Now why in God's earth did HBO need to use real horses? It's not necessary anymore, especially for the dangerous racing shots. I'm glad they cancelled it, so sad even one horse had to die. A real tragedy!

I think this was a way fro them to get out of show without spending another penny on production. I am sure it was an expensive show. Milch has a great record on shows but the theme of the show just doesnt work well to a mass audience.
