'Luck' Director

Blames TMZ for Killing Show

3/15/2012 8:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

031512_luck_still2031512_luck_still2
Director Michael Mann straight up LIED to the cast and crew of "Luck" yesterday ... insisting the reason the show got cancelled is because TMZ "unfairly spun" the story about a THIRD horse dying on set.

Sorry Michael ... no spin here.

Mann and producer David Milch addressed the staff right after HBO pulled the plug on the show yesterday ... and explained, "If you take a look at the media coverage that has been spun unfairly. If you saw the media coverage ... It's TMZ and everybody else."

Let's take a look at the facts ...

-- THREE horses died on their watch. No spin.
-- Horse #3 was euthanized on the set ... and production continued a few hours later
-- Publicist Karen Jones initially LIED to TMZ about the story ... in an effort to stall us from publishing.

Bottom line -- if the horses were alive, the show MIGHT still be on the air.

Shane!

Yet people taking animal rights to seriously. Stunt men die on sets all the time but no one ever says anything or stops production. Just because a couple of animals die who cares.

ummm?!

It's about time they cancelled it! They've had 3 horses get injured and die or had to be put down. All within a couple of months. Accidents or whatever the reason, this is very disturbing and something is terribly wrong. It seems like they had the mind-set...the show must go on. I'm happy for the sake and safety of all the remaining horses. Good Job TMZ :)

TMZ can be blamed for lowering the bar for entertainment news, invasion of privacy, unethical behaviour, stalking, asking celebrities inappropriate questions in the hopes they freak out, furthering the demise of society in general... but they can't be blamed for this show being cancelled.

Shane the stunt men have the choice to do the stunt, the horse isn't given a choice it's forced to do things. Get over it...the horse is not paid either. Some jack was obviously pushing things and doing unsafe stunts with the animals. This thing is about greed and cutting corners, paying people who are not qualified and/or using horses that are seen simply as 'props' with no concern for their safety. Animals do feel pain, and fear and will fight to live.. to act like their deaths are nothing more than tossing a paper cup in the trash is beyond shameful and inhumane.

why doesn't he throw a bit in his mouth and trot his ugly @$$ around a track - this way when he's mistreated they can euthanize him if this lame show is that big a deal...sorry but I care more about the horses than any of the fools behind this show...just don't cancel Eastbound & Down lol

Should they have memorial services for these horses? I like how the parasites at TMZ act like they actually care about the horses. The show sucked anyway, no loss

There is no reason on earth to produce a show that kills animals in the course of its production. Whatever it takes to stop such a program is fine by me. Why did it take three horses to die however, to get the attention of HBO executives.

TMZ is a joke. Who gives a **** about these low life's you glorify everyday. You're no better than the losers at Jersey Shore. You live and breath of that ****. The world has gone to the carper.

As for Luck. Loved the show, but they need to take care of their problems, and get the show going again!!

I heard that the horses died due to intense boredom on set-BECAUSE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED.

TMZ did influence the "far left" decision to have the show cancelled. Did the crew abuse the horses? Wasn't their handling above and beyond standards? Accidents happen in life. A person can die, but heaven forbid, an animal. Stuntmen and actors have died on movie sets, but production continued.

I am sad for the horses and ad for the show! My Dad and I love it and it's been fun talking about it and trying to figure out what is going to happen. Now we will never know..it's a big fat bummer all the way around!!
