Ninja Turtles Creator

Michael Bay's a Freakin' Genius

3/22/2012 7:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0322-peter-laird-michael-bay-BNThe mastermind who CREATED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in 1984 isn't offended Michael Bay is rewriting TMNT history -- in fact, he LOVES the director's new vision ... and he wants turtle fans everywhere to back the hell off.

You'll recall ... Bay pissed off a lot of people when he revealed his remake of TMNT would see the loveable turtles as aliens ... not mutants -- outraging super fans across the globe, including Robbie Rist ... the guy who voiced Michelangelo in the 90s movies.

But TMNT creator Peter Laird -- who sold his rights to the story years ago -- is coming to Bay's defense via his blog, telling TMNT lovers, “It could be a genius idea -- for the first time -- someone has come up with a way to have as many freakin' Turtles as they want.”

Laird adds, "I would actually encourage TMNT fans to swallow the 'chill pill' Mr. Bay recently suggested they take."

Turtle power.

The only fans that have a right to complain are those that know the turtles through the graphic novel (which was rather dark and gritty). By the time it became a cartoon and movie the first time it was already ruined.

The biggest problem I see with making the turtles aliens is that A) there will be no splinter or B) for some totally random reason the alien has both turtle and rat like people. Not to mention, "someone has come up with a way to have as many freakin' Turtles as they want.” So there is gonna be more than just the 4? that is so lame. My god, who the hell is going to watch this crap?

Michael Bay ruined Nightmare on elm st,transformers and now TMNT when will it stop? we as fans should be able to have some sort of say here since we pay to see the movie buy the merchandise and pay for his house in Beverly hills, Now i'm not fully against this remake but if he only used his brain alittle like for example the ooze that makes them the mutant turtles was from space i could under stand that more then just right out aliens come on Michael Bay stop Effeing us around here.

"Just so it's absolutely clear -- I think a planet of turtles as a way to explain any aspect of the backstory of TMNT, I think it is awful and unnecessary. PETER LAIRD!

A monkey with a camera would make a better director than Bay with his retarded movies.

I like how TMZ instigates stuff when the creator of TMNT never said "Take a chill pill or back off".

Arguing with the fans isn't a winning strategy. If they care enough to complain, you should listen. Frankly, I think the whole project is now tainted and the producers should just scrap it.

Peter Laird's genius remark was sarcastic. Every site that has reported this seems to have let the sarcasm go right over there heads. All you have to do is see his responses to the comments on to his blog to know this(for those that don't understand sarcasm). This is a terrible idea no matter how you look at it.

If Bay want to do a movie about aliens from space, he can go ahead and make Biker Mice from Mars. It has Bikes and Mice.

The simple fact of the matter is that with this spin, it's no longer the Teenage "Mutant" Ninja Turtles. Period. End of story.
